Gears

Will 3.31 gears from an '09 mustang V6 work for a 02 Gt? Does it matter if the v6 has a different axle size when it comes to gears?

If the axle is not a 8.8 do not try to put it in your car...also, 3.31 will most likely not even be any notice to you from your 3.27...

Nevermind it was a gt so it was an 8.8 axle. It won't be much different than the 3.31's performance wise, however the bearings on the stock ones were ruined.

What are the stock size shims for an 02 mustang gt with 3.27 gears? What size would work best for 3.31 gears?

Are you paying for the 3.31 gears? What's your reasoning for switching to them?

I got them from a friend and didn't pay for them. Mine were damaged when my pinion bearing was damaged.

Re: Gears

You have to get someone with experience to setup the shims/backlash/play on the gears. Otherwise you will have premature wear and failure and be right back in the same boat.

Every set of gears and every housing is different as far as what they require.

+1 you can try and re-use the shims that come out but you are really testing your luck. If you buy a rebuild kit then it will come with new shims.
