What I was told about 3.90 gears is this:

"there is a reason you don't see 3.90 gears for sale used, no one wants to get rid of them "

Depends on what you want..

3.73-would be great if you do a lot of hwy driving. Lower rpms at higher speeds good for cruising but still have some kick in the pants feel over stock.

3.90-happy medium

4.10-better if you live in city and do little hey driving but does not deter a lot of people who rate their cars based on smiles per gallon instead of miles per gallon. This is the steepest gear I would recommend for street driving. Feels like a whole new car

Also, you will see a decreases in fuel due to higher rpms with all these gears. Your decrease will vary between 1-4 mpg depending on what gear you have, what mods you have and how you drive. As well as your elevation could play a factor in that as well

I really like my 3.73's, even with my all season Goodyear F1's. Our trannys have a pretty low first gear ratio of 3.380 to 1, so it's almost like you have 3.90's compared to most other 5 speeds.

On a DD GT 3.73s are the perfect gear... When i get my Mustang I'm going to get a Manual with 4.10s though, it's going to be a V6 so i'm going to want that extra oomph to the car (I only need to drive 3 miles to school daily also)... Just remember, it is all your decision on which ones to get.
