I hate to barge in, but I think I'm going to buy a manual '03 GT this week.. What does a short throw shifter do? And is it worth the money?

Gonna throw some flaming material in here... I prefer the steeda tri ax. Just a little more notchy and positive imo. Nothing wrong with the mgw tho.

Shorter more precise shifts while racing....almost all have a spring loaded shift base so when you hit it up out of second it goes directly into third with minimal effort....they are a godsend and worth their weight in gold..

I have to agree here. The mgw is a great peice but i feel more controlled with the triax. Notchy and direct where the mgw had more of a roll to it or something. Its a little different with yseyup though as i use the roush handle and it has a rearward sweep. With that setup gears just fall into place. Mgw is just awesome looking though.

I still use mine....sometimes if you have a cup like a large from mc'd or bigger it will hit the rim...but it's fully adjustable so you can move it so it won't hit anything there

Pro 5.0 is like that but I don't recommend it. I drove my buddies Ti-Ax and it slides in to gear better compared to mine.

Most likely the Pro 5.0. That cheap from AM really isn't worth the money when you compare the feel of that to a quality Short Throw. I havent experienced anything other than the Tri-Ax and the Pro 5.0 but you get what you pay for with a Short Throw.

Nope it feels right...and it only BARELY hits the really large cups...not even enough to hurt them at all!

I just don't use that cupholder. If you have the cash, spring for the MGW if not then Pro 5.0 or the Tri-Ax are both good quality

Re: Short throw shifter

MGW has far less road noise vs steeda for SURE that alone is enough for me

They also sell an additional handle that is not as long that won't hit the cup holder at all...like what was noticed with mine I just turned it and have no issues at all with mine..

Just curious, how does a shifter cause road noise? Just wondering. I'm getting my first manual ever next week. So I'm just wanting to know. Haha.

The stock shifters have a rubber isolater in them that reduce vibrations. They also make the shift feel rubbery and that's not good. I only hear my steeda tri ax above 3.5k rpm.

On AM, most of these shifters have requirements with 82-early 01 or late 01-04. I have an 01 but I don't know if it's early or late lol

I believe after June 2001, they started putting the Tremec TR3650 in Mustangs. You can find your cars year and month on the drivers door sticker. In the pic, it's in the bottom left.
