I took mine off cleaned and put a coat or 2 of wax on the under side of my hood now you can see my engines reflection you just need a trim popper for the clips and a 8 mm ground bolt

It's hit or miss whether yours is actually painted underneath. Some are, some aren't. It will generally just fall apart however...

I took mine off and had to paint the hood. Looks a lot better without it imo. I was going to put mirrored Plexiglas in the "triangles " of the underside of the hood, but then after a few years of searching... I found a place that sells them pre-made!

It does look better but just figured it was there for a reason I'll probably paint the cover thing and judge it from there we will see next week

I think they are there to help the engine warm up faster but I'm not sure and in 110 degree heat you don't need any help

Doesn't that act like a bit of a heat shield, I would hate to take that out and over time see your paint start to get damaged from all the under hood heat. I may be wrong, I'm going to find out.

Ok so far I have read that its used as a sound reducer and a heat shield and is fire retardant, the plastic pieces that hold the shield up are supposed to melt causing it to fall over the engine and help to smother a fire, makes sense.

Yup, I'm pretty sure this is in place to keep the heat of the engine away from the paint on your hood.

Re: Underhood

Ive had mine off for years and never has my engine messed up my paint nor over heated...and its not in any way a sound barrier. I'm sure there is some r eason for it..but nothing that has ever effected my car

Same here I've had mine off for a few years too and it hasn't messed up my paint either and it gets about 115 out here on hot days on top of driving for 30 to 40 min in traffic and hasn't burned anything yet

Yeah, can't get much hotter than that! That has to beat my theory up.
