Need Help can't drive until fixed! brake light issue!

Hey guys and gals... out of nowhere my brake lights stopped working. Turn signals work, flashers work, just not the brake lights. the 2rd brake light hasnt worked since i bought the new trunk so idk if that one is hot or not. please help!

---------- Post added at 06:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:39 PM ----------

ok so i went under the dash by the brake pedal, checked the two wires from the little box there, and the red/green one is no go. has no power whatsoever... how do I replace this or is it a dealer only thing?

Re: Need Help can't drive until fixed! brake light issue!

ok now im even more stumped.

it is when i push the brake pedal.

I just checked my fuse box under dash, half of them claim to have no power readings, yet most of them are working ie; cig lighters and so on

wtf is going on!?

my thoughts exactly at first, but if one of the wires isn't HOT wouldnt that mean the switch is fine, its just a wire?

Same exact thing happened to my 91 Lincoln taillight running lights but my brake lights worked then my dash lights stopped working. It was my headlight switch I changed that took like 30 min being careful trying not to break anything but that fixed

So your tail lights are on until u hit your brakes or turn signals then they go out ? Do they come back on when u release pedal? Or trip out until u turn car off and turn back on

Re: Need Help can't drive until fixed! brake light issue!

car is on + push pedal = no brake lights

car is on + lights on + push pedal = no brake lights

car is on + lights on + turn signals on + push pedal = turn signals flashing, no brake lights

The red/green wire is the break wire if I'm correct and would only have power to it while the break is pressed. Josh, find out what fuse is the break fuse and pull it out and visually check it. If its fine I would check the switch on top of the break pedal. I HIGHLY doubt it is a wire unless you've been messing with wires recently.

+1
There are 2 fuses for the brake lights; The brake lamps, and the brake switch. Sounds like your brake switch fuse is out.

Chances of all 6 bulbs ceasing to work are 1 Ina trillion....plus they all light up with turn signal so they are fine.
