Cobra front brake upgrade

Hey guys I was wanting to put the 03 Cobra front brake upgrade on my 2000 gt. I've found a few places that sell the kit from 600.00 and up. But I was wondering could I not just buy the remanufactured calipers from an autoparts store and get rotors and pads there as well? I think it would be a lot cheaper. My problem is all the part stores I've called say they can't get the calipers. If this is so then what do people with cobra mustangs do if they have a caliper go bad. It would suck to have to buy a new kit. If anyone knows where to find the calipers new or remanufactured at a decent price please let me know.

Re: Cobra front brake upgrade

you need the calipers, pads, brake lines (probably some have different threads coarse or fine.... no one seems to know WHICH have what so you just have to look at the caliper), and rotors.

You can buy the brakes from a Bullitt, Mach 1, 99+ Cobra~ all are basically the same

You should be able to buy used calipers for 75 bucks a set to 100 bucks a set, pads are just normal so not to much. The rotors will run the most, but get GOOD ONES. Thats just leaves new lines.

I've heard u need the bracket to hold the calipers too, not sure on this, I was thinking of doing it to my 02 as well...what's the difference between gt and cobra brake setup besides rotor size?

I've head this as well, and I think another difference the gt's had a single piston caliper and the cobra has a dual piston caliper I'm not a 100% sure tho

Re: Cobra front brake upgrade

the rear calipers require a bracket and use a larger rotor, I was talking about the front. The caliper on the rear is the same

the rear on cobras are single piston just like the v6/gt (identical part). The front are dual piston Brembo's even though they dont say Brembo thats who made them. The GT for 99+ are PBR 2 piston, pre 99 are single front/rear for GT/V6

So what's the difference between dual piston brembo and dual piston pbr?
