Re: tail light tint

Cool, did you sand them down before spraying the VHT on so it'll adhere better and after you sprayed it on so the finish is glossy and not flat.

Also I'd put a few coats of clear on too...looks better and protects the tint layers.

DO NOT PUT CLEAR!!! I did my friends in the taillight spray in a can it makes it way to dark and you won't be able to see your lights.

---------- Post added at 07:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:04 PM ----------

I used the same stuff you did and had to buy new lights it was a $150 mistake cause I thought it would make a nice gloss.

Yah it sounds like you either had a bad can of clearcoat or put too many coats of VHT on...if you put 2 light coats of VHT and 2 coats of clearcoat they'll look real similar to the Raxiom smoked tails at American Muscle.

Basically every coat after 2 makes the lights a shade darker...a couple friends of mine put way too many coats on their cars and the lights were pretty much black...barely any light shown through, and it wasn't the clear that caused it.

Too much NS tint...

I must have deleted the pic but I had a example of what happens when you spray them in too cold of weather with flat clear as well . Wasn't watching what I was doing...

Damn man that sucks...I know tons of guys who did 2 coats of VHT and 2 coats of clear and they turned out great...not too dark and you could see the bulbs during the day.

Maybe the coats went on too heavy...I don't know.

I will say that the flat/matte look can be fixed by lightly wetsanding with a high grit sandpaper, then adding clear.

Did that...ended up removing all and getting ready to re tint...

After the sanding buff it out with a hand polisher and some good high gloss compound.

Before it was that flat color it was white and cloudy...I got it to that color by sanding and buffing....they will be redone soon
