Will any of the pulleys make a tick sound if they are bad. I have a tick and it's said to be a lifter but my car runs strong and everything I just don't want to spend a 1,000 of its something simple
My idle pulley on my blazer ticks bad. You can try spraying wd40 on it to see if it quiet it down any. Mine wobbles sideways (heard it was bearing to idle tensioner) Get stethoscope and listen for lifter. Just be careful around moving parts.
try running 10w-30 and see if the noise goes away. I run 10w-30 always, although ford recommends 5w-20, I have never had any problems but I run royal purple also lol.
My grandmas Monte Carlo has made that noise for 9 years. Never set a cel, never missed or anything. Its embarrassing tho. Mechanic said it would run like that forever and her being a tight wod, she'll run it like that forever. Yours does sound louder. Good luck
Did you try lookin under the hood while its running and giving it gas?..a bad idler pully could tick at certain rpm's then under load disappear..if it's bad it's only a matter of time before it binds up and throws your belt!..or just give all your pullies a good check with the eng off..

naw, thats not a pulley although they are bad about going out on this cars. Thats either a lifter not priming, the small spring inside of the lilter has broken, or slight chain slap on the guides. A buddy of mines did the same noise and it was the chain barely slapping agaisnt the guide but only at a certain rpm would it do it.
I would Take out a qt of oil and buy lucas oil stablizer from autozone or etc, it will help a lifter thats not priming. I know because I had one stick on my and not prime when I built the engine.
You can change the idler pulleys but I dont think thats going to fix your noise
Okay I'm thinking it's a pulley because when I'm sitting I can go up to 1700 rpm and it will barely do any ticking but if I cut the air on at the same rpm it ticks like crazy.

Do the thing with the oil as I said above and see what happens....
