Knock & Ping question

Okay, I just flashed the ECU to 93 performance tune. I got her warmed up and gave a good goose from 2 to 3. It seems like I heard a little jingle sound at WOT, but it was outside the car. It pulled good, so I don't really know what to listen for or where it should sound like it's coming from.

Can anyone help me with what the 4.6's sound like if there is some detonation?

I've had the pinging for a bit. At 93 it started at 3-3.5 K; 81 was bout same. Just got. Good tip on a posible fix since mine is not octane related. Im going to regap my plugs. I use M-craft. Will let you know how it turns out. With the high temps these days I dropped down to 87 and take it slow since its a DD.

Fuel line upgrade sounds like a job! Is that from the fuel rails back to the filter?

I'm so worried about detonating. I've pulled a few plugs to see what's up. Fondling the COP's so much is asking for trouble too.

By the way, which Insynorators do you have? They round or shaped about like a Flowmaster 10 series?

I wish I could shoot you more info on the 4.6's but its all greek to me:/but atleast you got the smarts to know detonation is not good at all!..
I have the bullit insynerators they are round like the old school glasspacks just wider with a diamond shaped chamber..they are kinda more popular on trucks that do alot of off roading to keep mud from building up on them..it kinda mixes the sound of a v-chamber and a glasspack without the ”crackle”..

I remember checking out a vid you made on another thread some time ago. I liked the way it sounded, just don't know if they would sound as good on mine. Tough to beat pushrod engine sound.

Thanks...yeah I enjoy the sound thoroughly...the biggest key is just going catless with an h-pipe...i really chose them because I dont like the drone I had with my 40 series flows..but who knows I might not have had drone with 10 series?..what are you running now?..

I'm not sure what they called it, but it's basically Flowmaster muffler delete. For the most part, it sounds good. Occasionally it pops and farts with normal driving, but WOT sounds great. I'm thinking about Borla. I want to get an O/R H, so I feel like I better have something close to a muffler so I don't get pulled over just for sound.

Hey just my two cents but I put an x- pipe on my car and I kinda don't care for it... I wanna try the h pipe now I think it would sound better than the x....

Yup, I've heard the H does sound better, deeper sound.

No, but I hear you can have some detonation and not get any codes from it. I'm wondering if I'll notice it. I plan to use the data logging feature on the SCT tuner and give Bama the data to create a new tune. I'm thinking maybe that would reduce the risk.

Like Steve I don't k.ow much of the 4.6. Do you have a k.idk sensor?
The way I usually check for detonation is pit it in a really high gear (4th). And cruise at a slow speed like 20-25. This will load the engine, were the detonation is most likely to occur.

Yup, gladly I have the knock sensors. I'll try that. Do you think it will be heard more outside or like it's coming from behind the dash?

Ok Also, should it sound different than bogging? I've heard my engine bog.

Different ways I've heard it described: marbles bouncing around(sounds to me). Or a rattle snake.

Okay, I think I'm hearing it cause I went pretty close to WOT.

Does it sound like marbles in a glass cup?
