Possibly getting a '13 Gt.

So I just found out that I may have the opportunity to get a brand new '13 Gt...I love my New Edge but I love the new mustangs too. Im caught between investing that $40k Id spend on buying the '13 Gt into my New Edge Gt and having a car that would be a nightmare to damn near angthing on the road...or getting the '13 and having the new style Gt...What should I do? Opinions?

Thanks.

If you have $40k liquid sitting around youcould rebuild your new edge pretty much ground up for $12-15k and have a brand new completely badass, unstoppable, and quite possibly more durable than a new gt.

And then have the rest of the money to do whatever with. Lol.

I would not sell a '99-'04 new edge for a new GT if I had cash to either invest in the new edge.

Re: Possibly getting a '13 Gt.

If I had 40k to spend I would buy a bear bone 2013 GT for around 30k and have the 10k to spice it up! My dad got his 2012 with the 5.0 and six speed with no other option (even the bear bone new one has everything a 99-04 GT Preium had except leather) for under 30K.

Hell with 10k left over you could put a super charger on it and kill almost anything on the road!

That's what I'm thinking, I could make my new edge a monster, and get it painted with some nice wheels while I'm at it. And if still have like 15k to play with.

I know, my favorite thing about them is the interior..its soo nice inside the new ones...but as far as the exterior, (this is my opinion) a new edge can look just as intimidating as the new Gt, if it more. The new edge has it's own unique style, while the new mustangs are just reliving the past..not that it's a bad thing, just that the new edge is very unique in the mustang world..i can deal with my old school mustang interior if I'm putting down around 700+ rwhp for about the same price...ill probably end up kepping my little old 2v, Ill love being able to say "oh it's just a 2v, nothing to be scared of" lol but then again, the new Gt is ****ing sexy, no doubt about it...

Re: Possibly getting a '13 Gt.

If you buy the '13 are you still gonna keep your new edge? cause if thats the case then put about 6 into a kenny bell or a procharger in the new edge then spend the other 34000 on a new '13. Then you have the best of both worlds!! with the way cars are being made these days there becoming less of a collectors item and more of something you throw away after 10 or so years. keep the new edge cause it could be the last of the good ol' stangs! that make senses?

Yeah I hear ya, I think ill stock with my new edge, it's an awesome machine and like I said, it's a one if a kind car, nothing else looks like it. And I can get the same performance out of my little 2v as the new 5.0 can with less money and I can build it the way I want it. Plus, in the end...i think I like the new edge bodystyle the best. I just dont care for the interior much..but some nice interior mods can fix that

I say get a 12 GT, it'll be less than a 13 so then you'd have even more money to put in it. It'd be great to build the new edge but it'll become a money put with both age and more power. Age causes things to wear out and power made them break prematurely.

If the new edge is rebuilt from top to bottom, then it will be just as new as the '13 if not newer technically. And if the engine is completely built (forged ect.) Then it would actually be more durable than the 5.0 and making close to the same N\A hp with the trickflow topend...around 330 rwhp with just the trickflows, thats a little more hp to the crank. Not very far from the 5.0 rating. And it will be forged making the 4.6 more durable. So I dont see age and time being an issue with this build since everything will be new and built.

There's more to the power train than the motor, what about tranny, rearend, driveshaft axles suspension, looks like you have a vert top right? Need more chassis stiffening. What about all the engine accessories? Ps pump water pump alt. all these things need to be taken into consideration when rebuilding

---------- Post added at 09:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:46 AM ----------

The new edges are awesome and I think it would be a great idea to keep one and build it but I just want you to take everything into consideration is all I'm saying.

How awesome would it be to have a new edge and put the coyote or roadrunner powertrain into it? I would probably take that over my car now!

When I say "it will be built from top to bottom" that means tranny, suspension, driveshafts, not just the engine. As far as the water pump, ps, and pullies, they will be replaced too. Hints why I said from top to bottom. This isn't something I'm just gona throw a big engine in and expect to go fast. And so far, building the new edge provides more power for less $$$. If anything, I could just find a nice Terminator for about $20k and invest in that.

And yeah, I saw an article in a magazine where a guy took a new edge and stuffed the new 5.0 in it. It looked pretty crazy.

Cool sounds like you got it covered. You can do all that for 12-15k?

If not for 12-15k, then there is always the extra 20-25k to finish it.

Most likely you'll be tapping into that, unless you have lots of good friends with hook ups lol. Either way keep us all posted with the progress!!

Re: Possibly getting a '13 Gt.

got it in FEB 2011, sticker was 34,500 and I got it for xplan which was closer to 30 or 31, then I got 2000 for my trade in and put 3000 down. You could get a killer deal on a new 2012, dealers want to move those badly. Keep in mind it may also be worth your time to look out of state as well. if you spend $200 on a plane ticket to save even just 1000 on price, even with gas you'd still come out on top

+1 very true. And only 31k? Damn that's a steal, plus you got the grabber blue..even better. In a way, dumping 40k into the new edge does seem kind of pointless when even after all the work and money it will barely be performing above a stock 5.0...and on top of that, it's a 13 year old car with no warranty

Pretty much the same as the '12, but the '13 is rated at 420 hp instead of 412 hp like the '12 had.

It's mostly cosmetic. You have the new tail lights and a new hood and front end. There is a very noticeable difference when you see a 13' by al 11'-12'

Dyno comparisons only show AT BEST 2 hp difference at the rear wheels

What is an estimated price difference between the 2? And is the '13 worth the extra chunk of cash?
