Talking Stumbling and surging

Hey everybody…new to this board, so “Hi”!

Got a question/problem!

My 97 GT convertible has a “stumble” in it when I accelerate….maybe it can be described as “surging?” This has just started….I figure that it is probably the fuel injectors, so I used a bottle of Gumout Fuel Injector cleaner in my last two fill ups (nobody told me that Gumout is not so good until after I used it!) and today I got fed up and took it into a oil change/service place and had an injector service for $50!

Well, it is running a little better, but I am still getting that surging….noticing a loss of power too! Do I have to wait a few days for the chemicals to work or should I notice a difference immediately?

Also, any ideas? I have not changed the plugs or wires since I had the car, but I really don’t think that this is the problem. I will change them out this weekend (or better said, my buddy will change them out…lol) as part of a tune up.

The guy at the oil change place suggested that I might try to get the fuel filter changed….again, part of the tune up…but could this be the problem? Any advice would be great!

Thanks in advance!

Dan

Re: Stumbling and surging

Well i would try the plugs and wires definitely. The injectors were a good step and the filter isn't a bad idea either. If it's none of those it may be something with the fuel injection or engine control systems. Or atleast that's what my Haynes manual says.

Well...we changed the plugs and wires....and changed the fuel filter...now the car is running MUCH better....thinking that the fuel filter was clogged!
