Does Weight Matter

Weighed my car .. Roughly around 3300 .. Without my subwoofer in the trunk.

Is this a ideal weight?
Should I try to lose more weight?

Always try to "add more lightness" to your car if it's possible

Re: Does Weight Matter

Weight affects every performance and ware value. Of coarse if your car is a DD then you could start to loose comfort if you take too much out. If you Heads Up race you need to loose as much as possible. If you index race doesn't matter. What do you want to do with the car?

Re: Does Weight Matter

rotating mass is even worse, every 1lb of rotating mass is = 10lbs of dead weight~

Stuff to take out includes spare, jack, rear seats. If you want to get serious about it replacing the front seats with aftermarket stuff. The stockers weigh a ton. I always recomend drilled and slotted rotors just for improved braking but it also lightens unsprung weight. If you have the chance upgrade to lighter forged wheels. An aluminum driveshaft and flywheel is a great upgrade as well.

Edit. Unless your serious about it I would say just take the spare and jack out and upgrade the front seats. The corbeau seats for our cars on american muscle are great.

Re: Does Weight Matter

most go with lighter wheels/tires, two piece rotors, alum driveshaft, etc for the biggest bang for the buck per lb dropped

Wish my car was that light.

If you decide to get serious go k-member, tubular control arms, coil overs, chromoly rear control arms. Remove rear seat, gut trunk, remove pass seat. Would get you close to 3000 dry weight.

SpectorV has great advice for easy and effective ways to cut some lbs. This is the most common approach people take for street/strip cars. 3300lbs isn't the worst either, but if you want improved performance in every category, weight is a good place to focus on.

Hope this helps!
