Unhappy 1/4 mile times Help!

Hi there, just took my car to the track and was disappointing on the numbers. I ran a 14.8 all 3 passes on my 02 mustang gt auto with 160k. mods are diablo predator tune for 93 octane, trac off, magnaflow exhaust and cold air intake. i shifted at about 5-6 RPM.

R/t .582
60- 2.306
1/8-9.693 m
1/4- 14.875
MPH- 94.69

Any idea of what i may be doing wrong?

Well sadly thats average with an auto running stock gears. Your street tires explain the 60ft in most cases....a 5speed can usually pull a low 14 same mods. I ran a 14.7 at 97 MPH but i spun alot if it makes you feel better

Re: 1/4 mile times Help!

So should i start looking into gears and tires next?
And yes my second run i definitely noticed how bad i was spinning off the line.
My goal as of right now is to get in the 13s with out breaking the bank.
3:73s maybe?

3.73s will help, but if your not getting any traction then they won't do much for you!.. I would say get some upper and lower control arms and better tires first!..

Re: 1/4 mile times Help!

I ran a 14.2 with a tuner,,but i was spinning all over the place with a automatic..It was embarrasing ,,didnt even need a helmet..But track conditions have a lot to do with it..Plus getting a good take off time means alot

I did that time with traction control on..It was worse with it off

SR Performance Complete Rear Control Arm Kit (79-04 GT, V6, Mach 1) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

Would this kit be any helpful?
And any tires you recommend? Right now i got 17x8 wheels on it, i am looking for some 17x9 from a 03 cobra
and Wow 14.2 is pretty good! that's exactly what i was hoping for :/ And yea never taught about turning the traction control off.
Is that the only mod you have then is a tune?

Re: 1/4 mile times Help!

Yep just the SCT 93 octane tune,,I dont have slicks or anything..The hardest problem i had is the drive by wire throttle..It lags when you first hit the accelerater..You have to account for that when you take off,,When you get that you can get off the line faster..I have my shift points turned up on the auto too,, a little scarey when second and third makes you slide around a little..thats why it did better with the traction control on

keep in mind his 14.2 is in a different model GT.

as for the kit yes it'd help...for tires i use to run nitto 555r's on my GT when i went to the track..you can grab a 275/40/17 555r and it'll fit nicely to your GT wheels.

With those mods plus 4.10a and a stick I'm running an altitude corrected 13.6. People don't realize what a difference that makes. A 14.7 in west Texas is a 13.68 at sea level.

I have a diablo predator tuner how can i change my shift points? or what seetings do i program it at? And also do you shift it when you race or do you just put it in drive? Im getting 3:73 here soon and hopefully i can find some cheap drag radials too.

You have a auto so just put it in drive!.. I wouldn't change the shift points right now (your getting some gears soon so that will change things up a bit)!.. Instead though I would turn off your Torque Modulation and up your shift pressure just a little bit!..

It could be the launch when I dragged raced my friends automatic formula it was tricky but i figured out I'd press on the brake and rev and when the light turns green let of the brake and press on the gas to were it don't spin out of control but there are many factors like the humidity in the air, temperature The track, tires. So don't worry it's not like your car is messed up. I would change oil and transmission fluid and clean air filter to make sure it can get the top performance also run some sea foam through the engine to clean it out. I wouldn't race with sea foam in the tank though. Just saying and giving advise what I'd do if I were you..
