93 Octane...?

I just have a small question? I bought an 02 GT about a week or go and it had a tune with it that made it take 93 Octane gas well I'm 17 and broke lol gas being so expensive would it be bad for the engine if I put normal gas (idk what octane) or what effects would it do?

I used to run a 91 octane race tune and I ran 87/89/93 and it never hurt anything. But the hight octane tunes will burn a lot more gas so now I have a 87 performance tune. It won't hurt anything but I would get a 87 octane tune to get better mpg

You may get some engine knocking if you use lower octane gas... Get a tuner and set it to 87 octane.

Listen carefully for pinging at wide open throttle. You might also hear it under medium throttle going up hills, etc. It will kinda sound like little BB's shaking in a tin can. This is bad and in time will hurt your engine. I would re-tune to lower octane tune if it was my car. As long as you don't hear pinging, it's okay. Knocking is real bad and you'll know when that happens. You'll experience power loss when that occurs. That is really bad. You could probably YouTube search knock and ping to get examples of what it sounds like. Good luck!!

Do you have a tuner? Maybe flash an 87 street tune until you can get higher octane gas running through her. Sometimes running with a good gas, like Shell will help.

Big Question that no one asked you is: Do you have the original Tuner, that the car was Tuned with? and if not can you get that Original Tuner? If you can, then it's a easy ReTune of the car.

If ur easy on the gas u can actually get better mpg. Since it tunes ur car to take advantage of the higher octane u need less fuel to get to speed. If u can't control urself then u should use the 87 octain tune. But befor u can do that u have to take it back to the stock tune, u can do that by using the original tuner or by taking it to a dealership, but they will charge to do it.

Yeah I run 89 performance on shell gas. Hot weather definitely makes it ping more.
