Intake replacement

I have a minor crack in my intake. So just a small coolant leak. I am thinking of replacing it with the Ford Racing Performance Improvement intake that AM has for sale. It says that you need to have PI heads to install.
Here is my question, what are PI heads, and how do I tell if they are on my stang. The previous owner had done some mods to the motor, but I'm not sure what all they did.
Also, are there any other intake manifolds available that would result in more HP/TQ without having to change heads.

Re: Intake replacement

PI heads cost a pretty penny, so chances are that you do not have them in your car unless the previous owner started going into forged internals.
I think this one will be to your liking.

Your probably right. I don't think the PO went that deep.

The Edelbrock would be nice. However I have a 98 with a 4.6.

It says 99-04 but since you have the 4.6L you should be fine.

Ok I'm going to save you. PI heads are not that expensive. They are the stock heads that came on the 99-04 GT. PI stands for performance improved. You would be able to pick up a used set for pretty cheap. Both intakes this dude listed will not work unless you have PI heads. Im not totally sure how you can tell the difference visually between the NPI and PI heads. You may have to look for casting number stamped on the heads.

Good information to have. If I can find a set of PIs for a reasonable price, I might just swap them out and get the Ford Racing Intake. The OEM intake isn't leaking enough to worry me just yet. When I put her away for the winter I will be doing all my mods. Right now I'm just buying everything I need to get started.

Re: Intake replacement

U can get whole pi kit for 900. That's brand new heads, new intake and cams. It would put u at about 270hp at flywheel. It will raise compression ratio too.

Defiantly something to consider. As long as my intake doesn't get any worse before I can save enough cash for that.

Does the kit come with the throttle body and plenum.

Re: Intake replacement

No throttle body. There the same from 96-04. You reuse your TB and Plenum. Check out eBay

Re: Intake replacement

Used PI heads can be found for less than $200. They're not expensive at all.
