odometer not working

hi everyone my 96 gt has 173083 miles on it. the other day the odometer and trip meter quit,the spedometer works fine.does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it? thanks

it sounds like a speed sensor i believe on that transmission there is a cble and a wire the cable it the speedo and the wire is the odometer

the VSS sensor is what he is talking about above (at least on 99 ups its called that) on pre 99s there is a speedo gear. Check that sensor, if its bad... but when mine had issue the speedo didnt work either.

i had this problem on my 96... the problem was the plastic gear in the instrument cluster broke. you can open yours up and see if thats the problem (takes like 10-15 minutes) if so you can get a replacement from Odometer Gears | 72 Croatan Road | Newport News, VA 23606 | 757.593.3478

i put a t 45 in my 03 gt and the issue was my tach still worked but my speedo was off the gear on the vss was the wrong one. but there was an electrical plug and a cable plug in on it. the cable plug is for the speedo and the electric plug is for the tach and the odometer and trip meter. at least im pretty sure
