Smoking Car

So for the past week my car has been smoking out the exhaust only when I first start it and when I rev it before I take off I thought it was fine because it runs rich since I have no cats but the smoke isn like a white gray color. Any idea?

It's probably the valve seals and possibly the valves and guides are worn out too.

P.S. Letting it run rich will eventually ruin your engine as you are constantly washing down the cylinder walls with excessive fuel, which removes the oil film protection resulting in metal to metal contact. It also dilutes your engine oil preventing it from properly lubricating the engine, which could be why you are having trouble with it smoking.

I bet you just switched to full synthetic. My car has 44k and never once smoked, that is til I put synthetic oil in it now I have the notorious smoke on start up. I'll be going back to valvoline after I use this 4 gallons up.

Re: Smoking Car

mine will smoke on start up when cold every now and again, sometimes it sits just as long and NOTHING and others it smokes a tiny bit, very odd.... I wonder sometimes if its my tune making it go super rich on the cold start up loop but in my case (and 03/04 cobras) it might be a slight valve seal issue)

Synthetic oils are said to dissolve the crud that builds up inside your engine from petroleum based oils, especially around seals and gaskets. Changing back may not necessarily cure the issue for quite some time until the seals and gaskets get (warning new word here ) re-crudded up. I'd stick with the synthetic as it does more good than harm.
