I just checked all fuses under steering wheel and hood. The lights in the back come on but the brake lights won't

I did. All of a sudden one day I couldn't put it in gear. That's when the brake Lites stopped coming on. Now I have to use a screwdriver to put it in gear.

Re: Brake lights wont come on

i know what this is...the shifting issue is a dead giveaway

---------- Post added at 01:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:45 AM ----------

this has happened on all 3 mustangs i've owned...there are two wires that lead to the brake light switch...they go into a little plastic box that just pulls off of the switch. cut the wires about 5" from the box and pull the box from the switch...the best way to fix this now is to splice in new wire with female ends (like audio crimp ends)...now just slide the female ends over the brake light switches males ends...use female ends that'll be a tight connection. you sir now have functioning lights and your shifter will be smooth once more.

i'll take pics in the AM for you if you'd like

Re: Brake lights wont come on

i took the wrap i had off so you could see the splice...just make sure when you put the female ends on that you put the wires to the right male end...so what i do is take a pic of it wired up before you cut anything....that way you can run the correct color to the right one

should take you 15 minutes to get back on the road right
