I don't know any how-tos or anything like that, but my question is how competent are you? Gears aren't an easy install.

Re: How to on gears

Gears are a bi*ch to install, honestly. And then getting the backlash correct and not having any problems... People doing it for their first time usually take a long time and ask many people, or end up taking it to shops anyway. I do everything myself to my car even as far as degreeing my own cams and pulling my engine out and such... except gears... Just beyond me. I'd recommend taking it to a shop. For $300 you can avoid all the frustration and get it done right. Worth it imo.

Re: How to on gears

Thats a pretty big job,,Youll need a 1/2 torque wrench,,youll need a 1/4 tourque wrench to check preload,,youll also need the gear paint to set your pattern,,and youll need a bearing press, youll also need a variety of shims to set backlash and pionion depth,if i did it i would go 373 like 01 bullet said,,you wont notice the difference im afraid with a 355..I rather rebuild my automatic tranny than do gears,,Im going to do mine but i have all the tools,,and im still hesitate,,because ive done alot of diffs,,replacing the bearing ,,but ive never done one from scratch

+111 i do everything but gears and rebuilding trannys, i just havent messed with a transmission,
but if you dont get backlash right then it will whine and just eat the gears up, be best to just take to a shop or dealer.
