Used SCT Tuner for an 05 GT work for a 2004 GT?

A buddy of mine just had a wreck in his 2005 GT and he's got the $379.99 SCT Tuner from American Muscle and he was gonna sell it to me since he can't use it and doesn't need it anymore. Is there a way I can call Bama and they can wipe all his settings off it and I can send them my custom tunes or does it not work whatsoever? Anybody else heard of this?

I'm sure you can send it off to them they would need your computer number and you would need to pay for the tunes you want. Just don't plug it up right now cause the computer codes do not match and could leave your car with no tune in the ECU. I would give them a call or shoot them a email.

StangerBanger04,

I'm sorry to hear about your buddy's car, however I'm glad to hear he's okay. As far as the tuner goes, you can use it however it has to be unlocked. So make sure he pulls the tunes off of his car and unmarrys the device. If he doesn't complete this process the device will be no good to you and you'll have to send it back to SCT to be unlocked which cost $150. Then you'll have to buy into our Free Tunes For Life program which will be another $150.

We can definitely write tunes for you as long as the tuner is unlocked. Let me know if you have any questions. Our Bama Performance tuning specialists are here in the building Monday-Friday from 9AM-5:30PM EST and Saturday 9AM-5:30PM EST. You can hit them up directly at 888.226.9764 and they'll get you squared away!

-Dan

Dan

So all he has to do is go back to his car and turn it on to at least draw power and on his tuner return his car back to stock then it's good for him to sell it to me then I can buy free Bama tunes on AM for $150 to get the free tunes for life?

Correct. If he does that you'll be in good shape and can buy into free tunes for life and use the device!

So let me get this straight......if i were to send my locked sct to them for 150 its unlocked. Then another 150 for free tunes? Y not just buy one brand new then if imma spend 300 bucks direct not including the shipping to sct for the tuner reset. Its about the same price really if u look at it

I'm getting an unlocked SCT tune cause I know the guy and he's returning his car back to stock since he totaled it and then once he's done that its considered unlocked and he has the ability to sell it as it but if he were not able to do that and get his car back to stock I'd have to sent it to SCT like you said to get it unlocked but since I do not have to do that all I do is get my free bama tunes for life for $150 but in the case you're talking about, yes it would be easier and just better off to buy a brand new SCT tuner for $379.99

I would say gears because it's gonna be the mod that is gonna be really noticeable. Even more noticeable than the tuner. If you're a daily driver like I am I would go with 3.73 gears but if you're a track based driver with your stang I would go with 4.10. After that I would say some underdrive pulleys and then a throttle and plenum combo. A throttle body is nice to have but it's not gonna drastically change how fast the car is so to answer your question. I would go with a nice set of Ford Racing 3.73 gears. I rode in an 03 GT and all he had at the time was gears and a SCT tuner and boy that thing was the quickest mustang I've ever rode in.

Yea only thing about it is u gotta keep the heater on low on ur windshield during the winter or it wont stick lol wen u take off hard ull watch it fly to the back seat, which is kind of heartbreaking cause its like throwing 500 bucks in the air lol

---------- Post added at 11:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:48 PM ----------

So it has its pros and cons, ive actually had guys look at my car "guys who THINK they know alot about cars" and tell me "dang man thats a nice xm radio you got there!" hahahah lmao

The Tuner was my first mod! I love it!! The next I would definitely suggest upgraded gears, then the exhaust and Midpipe just for the sound alone. Also CAI is nice also.

Also good for troubleshooting as you can use your tuner for reading CEL codes and clearing them as well.

I would do mid pipe and rear pipes. Great performance and you can really hear that mod! Nothing like a great sound of some duals hanging out the a$$
