I would do a mac off road H and a cat back to your liking (flowmaster, etc) you can google up some sound clips (youtube, streetfire, etc)

Agreed. Off Road H or X Pipes and aftermarket muffler of your choice sound great on the 94-2004 GT's

A ton of mufflers sound good on the ford V8s... the only ones I haven't liked to date are the SLP loudmouths, they make the car seem way too raspy.. I've heard a 96 around campus here with a bassani catted xpipe and dynomax mufflers, and it sounded awesome..

Magnaflow has great sounding products and I feel they have some of the best quality around for durability.

Re: 1996 Mustang GT- Exhaust help

I had a flowmaster then a mac catback on my 97 cobra and I like the mac better. The mac had the 3 1/2 tips on it which looks great.

I got the magnaflow (magnapacks) catback on my '03 and it sounds mean as hell. I'd recommend them for anyone. Theres a lot of goods ones out there to choose from so its kinda hard to really go wrong. Just google up some sound clips and find the setup you like best

Definitely go with the Mac H setup, thicker pipes and a more thicker louder sound than flow master, also if you can afford the under the table Inspection sticker remove you cats. That's how mine is and i'll keep it that way.

since your running the 96 and 4.6, i'd go offroad x and borla xr1's. Guy here in town has one, sounds really good. I'm in a 5.0 and have offroad H with Flowmasters. I can have a vid for you of my exhaust.

JC,
what you are saying is your cats are emptied or just off? my wifes GT is having some performance issues (bought this way), when i was under it today i noticed that both cats have ground rub marks on them from when the car used to sit on the ground, pretty deep too. i've been thinking about just gutting the cats (they could be the problem) like i did on another car but i'm worried about not having enough back pressure. this would screw me if the cats were not the problem as i am in Japan and it would be difficult to get new cats here. so my final question is, with the cats off, do you have enough back pressure on the engine?
thanks much
JP

Re: 1996 Mustang GT- Exhaust help

it doesn't sound like the ground marks would be the cause of the problem....if the cats were bad, the cars performance could suffer.....there are many people out there running mid pipes with no cats, it's not an issue back pressure wise.....emissions and loudness are a different story though.
