Cam prices - Mustang Evolution

Cam prices

Due to my lack of funds, I've decided to stray away from FI and am considering staying NA. This being said, I figure cams would be a good place to start, (I have bolt ons/exhaust and a tuner) how much do you think would be a safe bet to save up for a stage one cam, including cam springs and gears and probably installation. Thanks in advance!

Yes roughly 2g and a little more if u go stage 2 cause you'll need a custom tune

2k for cams? Where's that price from? I'm not sure about install since I installed them myself. I believe a set of comp custom grinds were 560 or so the 20 for crank bolts for the cams since stock cams bolts are way to small. New valve cover gaskets, if your doing the install yourself then its about 200 for a trick flow degree kit. Then 400-600 for a tune and your done. It's not difficult to do the install yourself if your not brain dead. I even bought a wideband and sct pro racer for less then 1200

Stage 2 cams are also a hit or miss with valve clearance so you may or may not have to flycut the pistons. Mine are stage 2 and I didn't have to cut mine. Your car will run with stage 2 but it will drink gas and have issues with idling.

The problem is I'm 17 with experience only limited to what I have done and helped with. Never messed with cams or any internals before. And 2k may be over shooting, but I'd rather save too much than not enough lol

Most mechanical knowledge and experience I had at the time was doing my rear springs and shocks and brakes. Lol I think it's pretty easy

The install itself isn't that bad but it's catastrophic if you f it up. That said it will only go together one way. Personally i would say save up and go 4v haha. The cobra/mach cars are awesome. If you insist on cams do all your research well in advance and make sure you have Everything before you start. I always recommend a new tune after stage 1 cams too.

Don't forget to look into new springs if your cams require it. Some do, some don't. Idk about saving for a 4v. In my honest opinion if you have a 2v already, just buy trick flows instead. It will save you a headache with mixing and matching everything and have to find all the accessory pulleys, timing cover, chains, chain guides, valve covers, head gaskets, coolant plumbing, intake manifold, intake piping, rewiring, new coils, new exhaust manifolds or headers. Plus out of the box trick flows flow nearly the same as the 4Vs. Unless you can pick up a 4v engine for dirt cheap you'll be spending the same money for the same performance and a much larger headache.

I know i just did cams in a 5.4 at work,,they were stock,,it cost around 1500 for cams,lifters and roller rockers..I would check the AM website,,and get the prices..I dont know about labor,,Ive never took anything to a shop,,and I work in a govt shop,,so dont know prices,,but installing cams are kinda tough,,
