Need help with missing cylinders - Mustang Evolution

Need help with missing cylinders

So now I'm having engine issues on my 1996 Gt. I felt my engine miss occasionally when accelerating hard. It got worse and began missing most of the time.

The diagnostic read code p0353 ignition coil primary circuit condition coil number 3.

My plugs were less than 4 months old and the wires looked ok so I replaced the coil pack. It didn't fix the problem. I replaced the spark plug and it is still running bad. Actually worse.

I reset the trouble light and ran the diagnostic. I get the same code and a misfire on cylinder 7 which is on the other coil pack and the other side of the engine.

Any ideas of what I should try next?

Replace all the plugs and the other coil pack

Also seen crank sensor throw misfire codes

I don't want to waste $55 on plugs that aren't bad and $100 on a coil pack. It doesn't make any sense that they would both go at the same time. Besides, the code is still showing for coil 3 who h is the one I replaced. All that I can think to do for now is borrow the wires from my dads mountaineer to be sure that's not the issue. Then switch the coil packs and check out what the codes read.

The coil pack might just be ur problem remember one coil pack per 4 cylinders. I would check the wiring diagram first to see if u have them all in correct order. And also to check if the coil pack for #3 is the same coil pack for #7.

They are on different coil packs and all are wired to the correct cylinders.

It may be something like a head gasket....or could be wires or burnt valves. Since u are gonna switch out cables ill wait till it happens. If the problem continue then we go further in depth.

Are all the plugs gapped right....that could contribute to it sometimes. Also did #7 pop up again after the codes cleared?

Ok I replaced the wires but that wasn't it. It ran fine at first then started missing again. Its funny that the cylinders are on opposite sides of the engine and run off different coil packs. Could it be the ignition control module?

I ordered a remanufactured relay control module from autozone for $110. It should arrive in a couple days. I'm guessing that's the problem.

$50 for 8 plugs? you planning on running iridiums? just toss in some $3 a piece motorcraft service plugs...and coil packs run under $50 each at Advance and Orileys

I went with iridium a. They were 7 and some change a piece. I had bad luck with aftermarket coil packs so I paid extra for the motorcraft.

i dislike iridiums in our cars...when i had a 2v GT it never played nicely with them...only with copper or single platinums. hopefully yours will do better
