Are 1996-1998 Mustang Cobras reliable?

Are they a lot less reliable than say a 2002+ GT? Would it be a good idea to ge tone for daily driving?

If its a daily driver, i would go ahead with the GT. The 96-98 4 valve cobras are nice but not as powerful as the 03/04 so it wouldn't really be worth it, and you'd be saving alot in fuel with the GT as well.

Cobras did not begin until 1993 making them the first Cobras from SVT but the last fox body's. the 96-98 Cobras were of the dohc 4.6 motor which the cams were inside the head making them NOT Gt40 heads. Those died with the push rod 5.0s.

Like i said, you're better off going with a GT because its newer, might find one with lesser mileage and would be better on gas. Its all up to you. But that's just my recommendations.

Hell yeah they are.

Some of the 87-93 cobras had forged internals making them incredibly strong on the inside.....im not sure if the 94-98 cobras have that.

But the 96-98 cobras have the GT-40 heads i believe, and they are VERY strong motors.

You could have 130k on the odometer, bolt on a supercharger, have 400+ hp on a stock engine and STILL have a RELIABLE daily driver.

They are rock solid engines.

The GT mustangs are very solid motors as well, but the cobra motors are Better as taking power adders and still being very reliable even at higher mileage.
