Says its compatible with 99-10 mustang, only think is how can I program this thing? I only have 1 key and 1 remote no spares...also the black piece that pops out if the ignition on the 99-04 with that be a problem? Can I cut it?

Subscribed, I am in same boat as you. My dealer wanted like 175 bucks to get me a new one and "set it up".

You have 2 to tango In other words you have to have both sets of keys, or otherwise it must be programmed at the dealership.

I want it so bad but imagine we'd have to cut the black piece on the ignition

How much would they charge me if I brought the key in there to be programmed

---------- Post added at 10:42 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:39 AM ----------

Can't I just take the chip out of my old key and get it in the new one? Doesn't the remote program easily just by turning the key on and off 8 times than hitting lock/unlock? I would
Imagine taking the chip out of my old key and either mounting it to the new flip key or getting it inside some how and than getting the key cut the same as my old one at a locksmith

I have no idea. Chrysler charges $250 out the door, and that included a key fob. I'd call around though.

You may be able and yes it's easy to program. I'm not sure why you have to go to the dealer to get it programmed, but everything I've read says you hade to.

Any competent local locksmith can program a key into the PATS type C system used on the '99 to '04 Mustangs--even if you have just one key.

Fluke and others make locksmith tools specifically designed for that purpose--last I knew Village Key & Alarm here in Saint Augustine charged $60 to $70 for the key, cutting it, and programming it into PATS...

Hey cliffy what about this..according to this you actually place your old remote inside this flip key so no need to program the remote, than you cut the key and put the chip inside the remote as well..this should works I'd imagine correct ?

I do not see why it would not work, however I would not start cutting up my only stock key to see if it does. Having a "flip-key" is not high on my to-do list, or on that list at all for that matter...

You will have to trim the black ignition piece for it to clear

Yeah if you start doing that next thing you know you're on a flatbed or paying for a lock smith's gas to come to your location

Cool would be a pure wireless FOB push to start ignition setup. (Not just the put the key in and push the start button setup like SHR).

Wow, just like a Nissan or a Beemer¹--way cool

¹ - Which perhaps oddly fall into the same category on my spectrum of desirable cars, and that is not anywhere near the top...
