Looking for best gears!!

I have a 2001 get with a few mods, I'm looking to put more power and want to know the best gears you guys would recommend. I wanna try and keep as much top mph as I can but really wanna be thrown in the seats. I drive my car like I stole it so I like to have fun. Any input would be great! Thanks

Check out American muscle they have all that they have 4.10 gear install kit with everything you need and then search for axles and everything you need. Ford racing is a good one.

Yea I usually go through them for all my parts. Now when you say stay original with 3.90s do you just mean that's what most people prefer and not the 4.10s because of the gas mileage and top mph loss.

What I said was be Original. Lol. Most people go 3.73 or 4.10s. 3.90 is a good cross between the two. Better acceleration then 3.73s but better top end then 4.10s.

I've still got the stock gears in mine for now. That will be my last mod to my car when I'm done with the motor and everything else. But I'm thinking more along the lines of 3.73 if not 3.90 when I do.

As far as like brands and axles and all, I haven't really dug to deep into that just yet. Right now I'm focusing more on at either doing a top end build or turbo kit. Not sure which one I want to do first. Lol

Actually 3.90s do not necessarily have a better top end. For best top end you have to figure out what top speed your car is capable of and then use the gear that will give you peak power at that mph.

example: 2004 Mustang Gt (Drag co .38, frontal area 22sqft, weight 3400lbs, rwhp 250) would have the potential of sustaining 160mph. So you want a gear that will give you peak h.p. at 160mph.

So if peak h.p. is at 5500rpms with a 25.5 inch tire and a .62 overdrive you will need a gear that hits 5500rpms at 160mph.

3.55 at 5500rpms is 189mph
3.73 at 5500rpms is 180mph
3.90 at 5500rpms is 172mph
4.11 at 5500rpms is 163mph
4.30 at 5500rpms is 156mph

Also remeber that you loose power in overdrive so a Gt that dynos at 250rwhp is probably only able to reach a top speed of 155mph.

Great info! But how often does someone reach top speed for real? The fun part is when you get kicked back into your seat when you launch, lower gearing will help that.

You don't want 410 if you ever plan on SC.

There are a million of gear threads o this site. Do a search, read a little, make a decision based off of your research. . It seems like every week a new gear thread pops up.

Well instead of searching its a lot easier to just ask what's on my mind. So if you want to be negative about what people ask. Don't bother posting bud. Mind your own and keep moving on.

Nope it's not and in fact they want you to post and comment as much as you want. So he must just be having a bad day or someone's not posting on his thread.

It's easier for you to go read what's been posted already as to reporting it on a new thread. Especially when it's a topic like gears. Very popular topic.

Yea but I have my own questions and when I search gears in the search bar. It doesn't pop up. Just a lot easier to ask then try and search through a million threads to see if someone asks the same questions I'm am looking for the answers too. It's my thread if people don't want to answer don't. No biggie .

Well when I have a question I'm just gonna ask it. Weather or not someone's asked it an hour ago, week, or month ago. Easier and faster to ask what's on the mind then try and search. Not looking for people's dumb remarks, arguments , or them wanting to debate about it. Just trying to ask a few questions. If everyone knew had the same questions with the same answers there wouldn't be numerous blogs about all these subjects . I'm going to continue to do what works for me, and if certain people don't like it , then don't comment and keep it moving on.

4:10's really bring your car to life but if you want to launch hard you are gonna have to improve your traction

After you've been here for a while it gets pretty annoying seeing gear threads over and over again. That being said, go look in the stickies section of this thread. There is a good read on gears in there. ColeJohnson also has a good read on gears in his signature if you would like to search for that.
