V6 horsepower

Can you make a v6 pull about 300-400 whp? Only doing internals? No supercharger, or any bolt ons? Only like timing, internals, and the like?

That's tough enough on a v8. I'm sure it's possible, but you'd have a heck of a project.

Depends in what V6 your using? The new ones (3.7) come with 305 so I'd say you could hit roughly 300Rwhp with full bolt on's and a tune. But using a 3.8l split port with a complete 4.2 l stroker kit, ported heads, radical cams, full bolt ons and a wicked tune you'll still probably fall just short of 300rwhp, but id say youd be close. stock 3.8's only make abot 160 to the wheels. Look at supersixmotorsports.com for a build kit and other options.

There's more to it all than just peak HP. Look at a V6 torque curve vs. a V8 curve and you will see why a 300 peak rwHP V8 will outperform a 300 peak rwHP V6 every time...

One of my favorite quotes is from Bob Hall, considered the "father" of the Miata:

"If you can't drive fast with 90 HP, 900 won't help."

That's just him trying to sell some propaganda. I'll take Carroll Shelby's advice first. Small car with massive power. Also known as the Shelby Cobra 427!...

You missed Bob's point. That being that there is more to driving fast than HP, not going fast, driving fast.

I raced rear wheel drive Corollas many years back when I was a whole lot younger, a whopping 74 HP. Not to blow my own horn, however I cannot tell you how many higher horsepower cars I beat on the track because I out-drove them...

No I got the point. But if you take two cars being completely equal minus HP output, one with say 100hp and the other with say 400hp. Then take an above average driver and put him in the 100hp car yet take an average driver in the 400hp car. Odds will still favor the higher HP car and driver. Great drivers can't really win races with lousy cars.

You are misinterpreting his statement. The point does not involve a competition between drivers or vehicles.

What Bob said was that "If you [some individual] cannot drive fast with 90HP, then 900 HP will not help [you drive fast]." Not faster, just fast.

Driving any vehicle fast, within its capabilities, is a separate issue from how much power the vehicle has. That's why there were winners and losers in the old IROC series--"identically-prepared stock cars set up by a single team of mechanics".

I've got a buddy modded out 2000 V6 turbo pushing just over 500hp. So it is possible but with a V6 it is very difficult.

Send a message via AIM to SpectorV
the 3.8L when built and stroked to a 4.2 etc etc (built for N/A) should be able to push 250+rwhp~

won't happen with out boost...highest 99-04 is pushing 278 rwhp unless it's been beaten...for 350 you're gonna need FI....an m112 project though will get those numbers all day every day. Luckily for the v6 that's a very good increase in tq and hp...we saw 425 rwhp and 450 ft lbs of tq on a friends '03 4.2 build with one
