Angry Starting problem

I have a 2001 GT. It sits a lot in the garage for a couple of weeks at a time without being started. Last few times it would not start without being primed with starting fluid. Now it will not start at all. The last time it was running I could not depress the gas pedal at all with out it stalling. At the shrader valve it seems to have no pressure and when I turn the key I do not hear the fuel pump running. Could this be a bad fuel pump???

Re: Starting problem

The fuel pump on these cars isn't real loud....but you should at least be able to hear the relay click over if nothing else.

Re: Starting problem

lack of pressure would be a pump, turn the key on and off about 5 times before checking fuel pressure, if it doesent pretty much hit you in the face, then the pump is bad.idk if you know this but fuel now days doesent last very long, i had a car sit for 2 months and lost the octane in the fuel where it wouldnt start.but you should have plenty of pressure.check the big fuel pump fuse under the hood, if the pump went bad, it is usually blown, it is a big orange buss fuse i think the 3rd or 4th back.

Yupp, the more ethanol they add in gas the less shelf life it has. That's why I don't keep the cars topped off anymore, takes me too long to burn through a whole tank of gas unless I'm traveling in them.

Re: Starting problem

I checked the fuses and they seem to be OK
Last time it started every time I tried to give some gas it would bog and stall
Turned ignition on and off several times and I have no pressure at the shrader valve
Maybe pump or relay
Where is relay located??

Re: Starting problem

Check your fuel pressure. Chances are its not the realy. Its the pump.

the relay is under the hood in the fuse panel box, i doubt its the relay... try switching some around to see if it works, i dont remmber off hand what relay it is but i think its marked under the cover.
