V6 to V8 motor swap HELP

Hi I have a 3.8liter V6 and i have put money into the looks and DO NOT want to sell it for a GT or anything. I would just like more power behind the wheel. I have a donor car set up for a V8 and trans that im getting a decent price on. I'm not completely sure on what all i would need to do the swap. What parts would I have to get/replace to do the swap?

If you have a donor car you should have everything you need. Im saying this assuming your buying a trans sepratley because your donor cars trans is missing or broke. If you tell us more about what you have we can tell you the rest of what you need.

I'm planning on getting the trans from the car to, its in working order. I'm hoping to get everything i need from it. I'm just not sure what I need to replace in my 3.8 to support the new V8 because I know that certain things such as the front suspension and rear end will need replaced to support the heavier engine but I'm not sure about everything that ill need to get in order to do the swap.

There are many articles writen on engine swaps but for starters you will need motor/trans which you know. You will need to research what systems you need to replace or modify for your individual swap. Induction/accessories/exhuast/driveshaft/suspension/fuel delivery/cooling/computer/wiring. Easiest way to find what you need is to find and article on the exact swap you are doing.
Here is a basic article on engine swaping.
http://www.mustang50magazine.com/techarticles/m5lp_0711_mustang_engine_swap_guide/viewall.html
I will try and answer any further questions.
If you want me to make a complete parts list that would take a few hours since I dont remember off the top of my head and I dont have that time today.

Just a thought. I'm guessing the donor car is totaled? Wouldn't it be easier to use you 6 as the donor car and fix the 8? Or is the donor a lost cause?

Best kind of donor car to do an engine/trany swap with is one that runs and drives so you know that when your swap is complete it will run if done properly. This is esspecially true if your car is a daily driver and you only have a few days to complete your swap.

---------- Post added at 08:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:19 AM ----------

I would suggest returning your 6er to stock trim, keeping the aftermarket parts sell the 6er and buy a good running gt and install your usable aftermarket parts. The end restult will give you a stang that is actually a gt and have a higher sell value. I know we dont like to think of our cars ever being sold but ive been through 6 stangs and there will be many more I have no doubt.

Ok just to clear this up I just swapped a 308 carb (302 bored 40 over) into my 99 original v6 car . You do not need a k member I used stock k member used 95 gt mounts and took one of the keepers out of the mounts and made a hole for a bolt and lock washer so the stud was angled at the member also have been told 89 fox mounts work with no modification . The transmission is the same in the gt as the v6 it will hold and it bolts right to the 5.0 as well . The suspension is the same on gt and v6 same deal same chassis . Your rearend will need changed IMO I would go with a 9' but unless u are going to push over like 400hp the v6 rear end will hold proven fact . The radiator works , for headers some that fit a 95 gt will work perfect . I know this stuff cause I've done a few . I don't understand why people want to go to that crappy 4.6 motor it's weak before I wasted my money on it I would put a 383 Chevy in might cost a dollar more modifying driveshaft and finding a 350 turbo but hey u will have way more power . I would go with the 302 if u want to keep it for this is what I did they cost alot of money to build alot of hp in but with withstand more hp than the 4.6 and sound better check out my swap page on here .

First off in basic bolt on trim the 4.6 2v is a better performer than a 302 in basic bolt on trim. This is why if you look at NMRA factory stock class the 302 has a 310 CID handicap. Furthermore lets compair apples to oranges again the 302/281 combo ford has been producing has been competing with 350/ls1 combos for decades and losing the horsepower per dollar war simply due to chevy continuing to use the larger engines, its easier to make power with a larger engine isnt it? However mustangs continue to be a better performance chasis than chevys b class sedan equililant the camaro. So by the time ford guys add oh say a 351 or 5.4 that is the actual equivilant to a chevys 350/ls1 production line the ford guys are paying more money for this but they are getting what they paid for and chevy guys start trying to use excuses like thats not the original engine or what ever they can to save face. And since we are just dropping all this extra hypothetical extra coin into our engines id rather buy a 392w before spending a single penny on a chevy 383 because the simple fact of the matter is ill get what im paying for, a better engine!

A 392w wouldn't outrun a 383 Chevy unless u stuffed about 15 grand in it just so u know u can build a higher horse power Chevy cheaper than a ford . A 302 is a better engine than a 281 ( 4.6) it's better in every area those 4.6 are the biggest junk piles ford ever produced . 302 Chevy actually came out with first an ford used their design so u know . And 350 Chevy smokes a 302 all day and a ls1 iron block will smoke the 302 as well I'm not saying the 302 is junk I'm talking unless u put alot of money in them they won't compete as where u can take a Chevy and put a little in an have alot . My 302 has 12 thousand in it so I know . Could take a 502 Chevy and smoke them all with a 502 out of te crate making 620hp . Don't do a 4.6 it's a waste of money get a 302 block maybe a repro from 69 4 bolt main with a set of Brodix or Yates heads and all forged internals and turbo or put a blower on it and be happy . Don't waste cash on a 4.6 that won't handle 500hp just trying to help u in the long run

HAHAHA 502 is a crate engine, you chevy guys and your crate engine... You think at 620hp a 502 is king of the street? Not even close, nore is it the best use of money and neither is a 383. And I dont need a 392w to outrun a 383SBC a 357w will do just fine as per ive seen it done over and over. I think you have alot of misconseptions about car building.

That motor would not outrun it either lmao u know about as much as a import guy do your stickers add hp ? Lmao I could take a 327, 350,355,383,400 ( small or big ) 427, 502 etc and best that are you being sarcastic I sure hope so . So what if a 502 is a crate engine is that all u have against it ? Ok? What's ur point it's an engine ?? All a 4.6 is good for is turbo it and run about 250 shot through it till it blows te bottom end and at least say u got something out of it .

---------- Post added at 07:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:21 PM ----------

You say u have seen it done many times they must have spent 100k or the guy with the 383 couldn't drive come to my town ill show ya .
