New Key?

So I just got my 2001 Bullitt, and I need to get another key, since these are chipped would I be able to find one online and get it cut or does it absolutely have to come from the dealer? I can get it cut locally for $2 if I have the blank.

If you only have 1 key it must be programmed by ford or someone who has a PATS programmer. Once you have 2 keys you can program as many as you like....but you have to have 2 first

If its a ford certified used car, 2 keys is one of the things on the checklist. Lol. Just got the wife's car at ford a couple of weeks ago. They made me a key. They wanna sell it, they won't let the price of a key stand in the way of a sell.

You can also make a regular key anywhere that will open your door it just won't start the car. (NoChip)

Just curious is that true for older cars like the SN95 models?

usually a locksmith shop can cut a new key, but with cars and thier computers you need a chip key to start, most anywhere it will cost around $80. the chip runs 8 ohms to the computer to let it start the car. No chip key will only open the doors. The only way I have got around that was to have this great auto electric mechanic do some soldering in the main computer to tell it there were 8 ohms in my worn out chip key, cost me $25

Only for 94 and 95 sn95s yes but when they went modular in 96 they upgraded the computer to. In 94 and 95 they had obd1 which didnt require a chip(dont quote me on that) but in 96 they switched to obd ll which requires the chip.

I believe you are correct. My cousin has a 95 and I don't think his has the chip. But both my 96 and 97 had it.

ebay has blanks you can get (or used to) then have someone local program (find the local place first)

Those eBay keys are ones that "clone" you have to have 2 keys to program them...

If you only have one key it still works, but if you get another one you have to pay usually $80 for a new one and for it to be programmed. Once you have 2 then you can program as many as you want yourself.

Soccer said it right...the ones off eBay and amazon are programmable only if you have two keys. Locksmith told me they only clone themselves off your other keys.

What about a keypad? They have eBay keypads for cheap..must you need 2 keys/keypads to program a new one?

You can get a standard blank for a couple bucks and get it cut for a few also. But without the PATS chip it won't start the car. You need 2 PATS keys to program another yourself.

If you mean key fob, then no you don't need 2..u can buy/program up to 4 and they're very easily programable1 at a time.
1- turn key on and off 8 times ending in the on position
2- door locks should click indicating you are in the learn mode
3- hit anybutton and BAM you should be programmed
4- I believe you can then program other remotes at this point as well but don't quote me on that I only programed 1
Got mine on ebay it was 8 dollars including shipping

This is correct...the only thing is you must program all remotes for the car, even if its already programmed. I just programmed two and when I did it I had to reprogram the old one I had or it would have deleted it

Believe it or not, my local Walmart was able to cut me another key (chip and all) for $80. Only certain ones can do it, but it's worth checking out, I think.

They said there are 2 different keys with chips (that they can make), one is $60, the other $80...Of course mine was the $80 one.

Still better than the $175 the Ford Dealer wanted!

I will have to remember that. Thanks. I am about 95% certain I misplaced a set of my keys so will be needing to get another fob/key here shortly. Definitely going the ebay route for the fob at least.
