3:73 or 4:10

Ok which should I choose. I do alot of highway driving but normally only drive this car on weekends cuz I drive a big 26 ft truck for work during the week. I love the torque off the line and probably won't normally go over 120.
Idc about fuel mileage and its automatic. I've heard that 4:10 is better in automatics. What is y'all's opinion? Or maybe 3:90s? Just curious of everyone's opinions.

Lots if highway you will prefer the 3:73. Torque off the line you will prefer the 4:10. Might be beneficial to split down the middle.

Will I still be able to feel that torque off the line with 3:90 like you can with 4:10? I love the getting sucked back in the seat feeling.

Well 4:10s don't affect your mpg that drastically, it isn't going to go from 30mpg to 3mpg by any means. Since you said you don't care about mpgs just get the 4:10s

What would be the difference in the top end mph wise from the 73 to the 10?

i know it may be an over used cliche but its true - DONT FEAR THE GEAR. And considering your an auto 410's without a doubt. Understand you'll sacrifice some top end but as long as your not into going over 110-120 (b/c our 5th gear is useless) or so than you'll be stoked with this decision

Search function. There are probably 10-20 recent ones from January to now.

These gearing threads are getting obnoxious.

May be getting obnoxious but your still looking at it and making a comment aren't you? Obviously interesting enough to get your attention.

Or irritating enough that all you new people can't use the search key.

Really if you search through the site it has nearly every answer for your questions. Even look through them and if you dont see your answer pm someone that has posted on that thread.

Seriously, kiddo. Quit coming in here with attitude. No one wants that.
I just said to search the forums instead of making yet another thread about a worn-out subject and you start throwing out insults.
Get your act together or beat it.

Come on guys, he has only been on here for just over a week, give him some time. I don't likes seeing repeat threads also but it's different when a new guy does it.

The way i look at it is since stang forums have been around since the inception of the world wide web nobody should be creating threads anymore lol. Everything has been covered. Who knows, this dude may be a research machine. Everyone now and than is allowed to go the convenient route and just post up a thread. Bu with this being said, if this dude continues to post up common questions than we have a right to tell him to search. Just my new jack 2 cents

Get 4.10s. 3.73s are disappointing.

Dad's 07 has 3.73s and we still race every time I go see him and mom. I win *almost* every time and the man has been driving manual muscle cars since he was 17.
It's a big difference.

And I think you very much for your assistance. I know there is a chart but I don't really understand it but top speed wise what is the difference between the two?

In individual gears, the lower the number, the higher the MPH you van achieve. However when you get into 4th and 5th the higher numerical gear makes it easier to reach your top speed. If no remember correctly all of that is mentioned in the sticky I mentioned earlier in the thread.

When I raced a 95 cobra with 4.10 he opened faster but his gears were way too short. So he had to shift before I did.

Ofcourse, he gets to his peak power faster, because higher gear ratio

Exactly but I still had more top end which is why I beat him every time

What about 3:90s? No one ever says much about them. Are they no good? I know they are quite a bit more pricey on AM would that be the reason why most don't use them?

No most just judge the common 3:73 and 4:10 as a significant difference. To ask the difference between 3:73 and 3:90 is going to get the response of not a big significance. 3:90 is considered by some as the happy median between the two though.

---------- Post added at 12:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:16 PM ----------

Most also recommend the Ford Racing Gears and I don't believe (could be wrong) Ford has the 3:90 which would also contribute to the lack of recognition.

I would stick with ford gears, ford doesnt make a 3.90 and some people have complained that 3.90 gears are noisy.

Had 3.73s in my 99 auto GT and it was not enough.

Your first gear is 2.80 to 1, a manual is 3.3 to 1 1st. so in other words a manual with 3.73 still has a quicker 1st then an auto with 4.10s. 4.10s also mean you will use all of 3rd (1 to 1) in the 1/4 mile while 3.73 you'll be crossing the line under peak power. Quicker you can get into 1 to 1 drive the better. Thats why new 5.0s run slower then there dynos. Because they dyno in 5th(1 to 1) but they never use 5th in the 1/4 mile lol.

Get 4.30s if you bad!! Motive makes ok gears I hear. But like people say, FRPP doesn't make a 3.90 or a 4.30 gear. Thats why the odd gears aren't really popular. I don't even know if FRPP makes a 4.56.
