Clutch Problems

What are some symptoms of a bad clutch.. seams like I have to let it quite a ways out to start catching. But there's no problem pushing it in. Sometimes seams to "grind" a bit going into second. But only when I first start driving.

When mine went bad, the clutch pedal was extremely firm and hard to push. And the engage point was almost to the floor, slightly above it even with steedas adjustable clutch cable
