I know the mass airflow meter can fail but like the o2 sensors can it be beneficial to replace the factory one with 185000 miles on it? Would that help improve mileage and throttle response?
Unlike the O² sensors that are electro-chemical devices and do normally "wear out" over time, the MAF sensor is a electrical/electronic device that generally either works or it doesn't. Their true failure rate¹ is so low that it is insignificant.

¹ - True failure, as opposed to their being contaminated from use of "high-flow" (low filtration) air filters; or physically damaged.
