gap settings for plugs

I bought plugs at auto zone for my daughters 2002 gt v6. The factory gap setting are way to big. Is this normal? I was told the settings should be at 54 thousandths. Is this correct?

Yes .054

Check under the hood. On the bottom of the hood there is a sticker that will say .052-.056 I think it's the same for the v6s

They might be. What kind did you get? Motor crafts were already gapped .054 on mine. But I double checked and they were right. So they could be.

Autolite is the brand . The factory gap is 84 thousandths if I bend these enough to get them at 54 thousandths the prong is bent down in an angle not a flat position over tab. Does that matter?

Have you tried bending it yet? Does it for sure look like that? Cuz I'm not sure if that would matter or not. Seems like it would

Spark plug gaps fixed! New question

As you probably guessed I'm tuning up the Mustang. It seems to be lacking power on take off and doesn't run smooth. Not a dead miss though. It also seems to be idled high. You can audibly hear it's idled high and when I put it in gear it jumps. (automatic) Anyway when I get on the highway and open her up she runs great! I went to my nearest auto store to buy parts, I asked the guy what all I would need. He said the usual which I already know. Plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter. But I thought I would ask Mustang pros who know more than this guy. Is there anything else I might do to fix this problem? It's my daughter's car and I REALLY want it running dependably and help fuel mileage. Thanks!

These cars jump from neutral to in gear for autos so that's normal. Depending on how many miles are on it, yes plugs, coil/packs, fuel filter, motor/tranny oil change, rear end check. A tune will help with gas mileage, you can get a tuner from American muscle and have three different kinds of tunes.

I replaced my upstream o2 sensors and got a lot of power back. Car would run rich and big on takeoff. Gas mileage went from 17 to 25. No codes just worn out sensors. Got mine from rock auto for 27 each.
