Engine Popping noise

Last night i was driving home and all of the sudden my car started to make a loud popping noise coming from the engine. I pulled over to check it out and it sounded like it was coming from the rear behind the throttle body but have no clue what it is. I drove it about a mile back home and it kept getting louder and the car started to shake at idle. Ive never heard this kind of sound before and not sure what it could be and of course its easter sunday so theres no shops open to take it to. Some one help me out on the problem

Did it pop up a cel? When at idle rev it and see if the noise gets louder.

No its coming from the top end. Past 2 weeks it sounded like I had an exhaust leak so I first thought the manifold but now I know its the top end I think I might have blown a plug

This sound exactly like mine did when i needed the passenger side exhaust gasket. Not on the manifold but the one on the midpipe. Sounded like it was coming from right behind the tb. I put on an o/r H pipe and used the gasket that came with it and after 30 miles I blew a chunk of it out. At idle have 2 friends hold shop rags blocking the exhaust tips and listen by the engine to see if it gets louder. If thats the case... ONLY replace it with a ford oem crush gasket.
