03 Mach Engine ping or knock

My mach started making a knocking sounded after a 60 mile drive. Hadnt noticed the knock up until that point. Also, it only happens beyond 1700 rpms and really kicks up between 2200 and 3000 rpms. I also just recently filled up with some 89 octane fuel.( Manual says 91 octane.) The knock only sounds like its comin from the passenger side of the motor with most the sound coming from the cylinder closest to the car. Any ideas? I was hoping its just the fuel or maybe a spark plug..

Ugho. Ok. So it sounds like you have experienced a common problem with your 03 mach, the cylinder 8, 7,6 cooling failure. I bet your car is a early 03 production car. There is a cylinder cooling mod available for 4v engines rhag had this problem. Unfortunately, you probably have scorched the pistons and you may need a rebuild. Check the spark plugs and see if they look toast.

Not with where the thermostat is located. You might only have light scorching or you could just need to do the spark plugs. Either way, I would check the plugs and get a good tank of gas.
