Flowmaster turn downs

The previous owner of my car put turn downs on my 02 GT other than the hideous emptiness where the exhaust tips are and the constant dirt clouds why would someone do this? Any advantages?

Only advantage is less weight, and can fit wider tires

Turn downs are loader than running tailpipes. The extra bends and length of the tails quiets the exhaust some

He meant most. I have turn downs cause it makea the car louder since it bounces the sound of the floor. It has a nice sound depending on setup and mufflers.

I'm starting to think I don't even have a car anymore. I'm so tired of hitching rides or driving my explorer.

The turn downs make it deeper sound. That's all you would see on the older fox bodes. And they sounded good. My 04 has flowmaster 40s with turn downs and it sound great
