Resonator Delete

I currently have Flowmaster 10 series mufflers, and a co worker told me if I take my resonators off it would sound much louder.. Is that true? Or should I just leave them on.. I want it to be louder but I don't know if taking the resonators off would even make a difference or affect any power loss.

Resonators are commonly used to quiet down a car with otherwise open exhaust. Some SVT buddies of mine use Pypes M80s as resonators to quiet down their stingers but keep the rich Borla tone.
If you have resonators, which would be strange considering you have flowmaster 10s and their sole purpose is to be obnoxiously loud - perhaps they were installed to kill the rasp? - then removing them will absolutely increase the exhaust volume.

This is true, but that's because they're not used in conjunction with a muffler.
Any straight resonator will be obnoxious. Ford Racing's M55 catback was essentially hollowed out mufflers (made into resonators) and it was stupid loud.
The Pypes M80s are obnoxious, Pypes Pypebomb kit is obnoxious, and they're all just resonators welded to metal tubing.

^^ the shop he got the work done at might of added them on when they installed them. Or his co worker is mistaking one of his cats as a resonator.

Co worker probably doesn't know what he is talking about, I told my friend I took out my cats and he said I need to take out my resonator next. It only has cats and mufflers.

Yeah I was wondering if I even had resonators.. I have a 99 and it comes with like 6 stock cats I think.. But I thought maybe 4 were cats and 2 were the resonators but I wasn't sure.. My co worker said he took them off his 95 5.0 and it sounded like a beast he said..

I request a picture so we can figure this out.
Resonators and cats have a signature look to each.

I've heard that some mustangs between 94-04 came with 6 cats but I thought it was the sn95s not the new edges, they only have 4. Stock your car does not have resonators, it has 2 mufflers and maybe 4-6 cats depending on year. The exhaust shop might have installed flex pipes which look like resonators or cats but are not. If your exhaust is stock other than the flowmasters, you don't have resonators to worry about.
We need pics to find out what you are talking about

Yeah I thought it was weird that I had 6 cats too.. But I'm the second owner of the car and the previous owner did nothing to the car.. And the exhaust shop only welded my mufflers.. I'll try and get a pic of it today

Essentially you have 6 cats but I believe it's actually 4 cats and two resonators

So the thing on the left is a resonator?? Will removing it make a noticeable difference in sound?
