Go with ford oem, my friend once used royal purple and he said it was hard to shift, he said it was too thick and wouldn't warm up quick

Mercon V ATF is what Ford recommends and what almost everyone I know uses.
You can throw in some synchromesh for the gears too if you want to spend the extra money. Swap a quart of ATF for synchromesh.

Tremec says not to use the syncro mesh in the 3650 in the manual. There is a ton of discussion on what to use, and how much to use. Most say to use the GM stuff, or penzoil ATF. I just changed my fluid and used RP ATF Max. No problems for me although I only have 250 miles on the fluid. I think next time I am going to use Mobil 1 ATF. That is another fluid that is supposed to meet Tremec's specs.

Do a google search on the TR3650 fluid and you will find a million competing opinions on it. Also the amount of fluid was changed from 3.8 to 3.2 quarts via a service bulletin from Tremec.

Yeah... all the newer sticks use ATF... Mercon V is fine. I've got $3/qt Autozone brand Mercon V in mine and its fine.

Actually even a 20+ yr old T-5 will work great with Mercon V.
