Not by a whole lot, but stock for stock i think its faster by like .4 in the 1/4 mile. In all honesty mustangs were a little slower than camaros for a while, until they went out of production and now Mustangs win with the 5.0

Its actually closer to about .6 sec difference in 1/4 mile. Depending on tires and driver experience (which not much experience is needed to push a stock car to its maximum ability) it could be a door to door race or the z28 will put a bus length on the 2vpi cars. Most likely the Z28 will drag the 2vPI by a bus.

The 1 thing i like about Chevy's is how it is ridiculously easy to make power out of their engines. The LS7 makes 500hp at the crank, with h/c/i it will make about 600 to the wheels.

HP isnt so much important as HP to weight ratio though which is why I wish FORD would take the mustang back to its FOX body roots and stop producing heavy underpowered stangs.

I am even unimpressed by the new coyote engine as its "awsome" peek 420hp rating is not providing near the performance it could as the engine has to run to over 7000rpm to get this power level. Average power is what gets a car down the track not peek. I had a Grabber Blue 2010 GT that I raced a brand new 2011 412HP 5.0 with. Manual to manual, stock to stock, over and over, the results were me losing by a constant 2 cars lengths. Two car lengths for an extra 100 so called hp? Weak.

I would put a 98Z Auto up against any stock Mach1 and win every time.

Alot 98Z Camaros were freaks and engine power ratings were actually closer to 350hp rather than 320hp. Infact running a Termi was a close race with one of these Camaros.

Ok yes the z28 will beat our 2v stock for stock. Do some bolt ons and a good driver to each car and our 2v are at an upper hand. The SS is in a different category than our 2v. When i had my 01 GT it could walk away from SS's all day, even without using my nitrous. It pissed those guys off so much. My buds 03 Mach 1 with exhaust, cai, bfg radials, and tune beats WS6s and SSs. But like I said it takes a good driver mod to do this. Plus our 2v autos even with a good driver couldn't beat a z28 the auto trans is crap at the track.

No. The only 4vs are Machs, Cobras, and the new V6/5.0s

Here's a while back when my car was slower than it is now but beating 02 z28 now I'd beat that thing by about 4 more tenths.

If it's a really nice Z28, I'd probably do it because I absolutely adore the LS1. Plus, I'm tired of OHC and miss the simplicity of a pushrod.
I'm by no means telling you to do it, just giving my opinion.

Very valid point. They're butt ugly cars (the TA and 4th gen camaros have the ugliest rear end I have ever seen) but those LS1s just love to make big numbers.

I've beat Z28's in my 2v. At the time I had full exhaust, CAI, tune and 4.10's.
