Fuel filler neck seal

So I replaced my fuel filler neck seal but it broke again after one week. I bought that one from advanced auto parts. I went to the ford dealership this time around and bought the filler neck seal from them, the service tech said the aftermarket ones always break.

Now before I do this process all over again I want to make sure I put the seal in the right way. Which end should be facing the tank? Also the seal from ford does feel thicker and more durable. It was also $5 less than advanced.

Thanks

Just replaced mine. I couldn't even get the one from advanced to fit. The end facing the ground on the picture goes inside the tank.

Go to ford the one they gave me is noticeably better quality. I didn't put the old one on wrong so hopefully this one stays on.

I got the one from ford. I don't know what advance gave me but it was almost twice the size as the one from ford. It went in super easy and no leak since.

I got mine from LRS. I believe it was a Ford OEM part though. No problems whatsoever.

Using the picture as a reference, the bottom (with the little tab) goes into the tank and the filler neck fits into the top.
