P0340 Code :(

Hey, we bought our 04 gt last year and its already 163xxx on it and we've put about 16xxx on it since we bought it and we need ha any problems out of it until today. Turned it on and was going to next city and I notice the check engine light is on today but wasn't yesterday. I figured the cai came loose like it did last time. Took to auto zone and I checked the cai and it appears perfect so I get them to run the light ad they came back P0340. Camshaft position sensor. Car has now started being hard to start up and it's dying after I put it in reverse. The car has never acted up until today. I think I read that the alternator could be causing this but has any body had their car off time?

Machines always operate properly--right up until they don't.

It could be the generator, also could be a defective cam position sensor--aside from just replacing parts the only way to tell for sure is to monitor the generator and cam sensor outputs with a diagnostic oscilloscope...
