Cue ball shifter

So a couple of my little cosmetic items came in yesterday including the sequential tail lights and Mach 1 grill delete, along with the 5-speed cue ball shift knob. I noticed when I took off the factory knob and put the new one on, that it screwed on crooked and sideways. I tried to loosen the bold and I tried un-screwing it and re-screwing it back on and it's still crooked. Could I use a wrench and try to tighten the bolt more? How could I fix this? I'm sure it's an easy fix.

Where did you get your shift knob from?
I got the black one from AM and the threads inside the cue ball just pulverized.

Use a lock washer.
My MGW did the same thing. I slapped a lock washer on there and it's perfectly straight now. Plus, is keeps the ball from working loose with the extra pressure on it from below.

I have a Retro style knob and i just had to try putting it on about 5-6 times until i got it lined up the way i liked it, The trick is to find a place to start that once your done turning its nice and straight.
