Comp Cams

I know a lot of people run the stage II comp cams xtreme energy XE270AH but has anyone ran these or heard of these?? Which ones are better for performance?? Which set of cams have a better sounding idle? I saw these on Stage 3 motorsports

http://www.stage3motorsports.com/199...Shaft-Kit.html

And these are the 270s on AM

The Xe270ah are a great set of cams for a PI car. The XE274h are designed for the non PI cars. The tri power cams will not make as much power or sound as aggressive.

Be careful I used those same cams in my stock engine and had valve clearance problems. I called Comp Cams and they said it's about a 50% chance of it having clearance issues. But now I have them in Trick Flow heads bolted to 5.1 stroker they do sound mean. With my stock engine I picked up 50 rwhp with these cams and a boost a pump.

That's the only thing I'm weary of! I want that idle sound that the 270s give but I don't want to spend all the money to buy them and they don't fit and then I have to hell out more money for bigger heads

I have my old dyno sheet 404 rwhp. Why is that hard to believe? Or you don't believe me when I said those cams destroyed my stock engine?

Yeah unfortunately I had clearance problems bent valves and dented pistons. I installed them in my new engine and they sound great with no problems. I needed to buy cam gears to go with the cams because my year the stock gears are pressed on not bolted like the Comp Cams. The gears alone are $289.99 from AM.

Well now I'm reconsidering this because I don't want to pay $1000+ for the cams, gears as springs and they ruin my engine. I also don't have the money to dump into bigger heads as well as cams

OP, i am still in your boat with regards to camming my '04 GT. I cant afford it now, so for the time being i read and read and read some more lol. I found this article a few weeks back and found the results interesting. I have been wanting the comp stage II's (the XE270AH) but those would almost certainly require some additional supporting hardware (springs, retainers, etc). Ok fine, but i see this article and has got me rethinking the direction i want to take.

https://www.dssracing.com/v/vspfiles...cam-motion.pdf

Big fan of the lopey idle characteristics of those 270's, but even the 262's will give some of that w/o (according to this article) low-midrange loss of tq AND no real need to replace the supporting hardware too.

Now i claim no actual or first-hand knowledge of this, so take this info with a grain of salt, but i thought to pass this along and hopefully help with your plans.

Good luck with the cams I hope what happened to me doesn't happen to you. The 262's are good sounding cams. It sucks the gears are so damn expensive.

At least over a grand ,

I've only spent 350 for parts so far, haha tree and exchanger on order for 80 bucks.

Maybe you should invest your money into appearance mods lmfao you need it.

Your right but for a very safe 8psi it's a pretty good bang for the buck, with my setup being bone stock.

Slow4v you can't start crap with someone about there car "only" having 404 rwhp before you even have your supercharger installed or all the parts lol, it does sound a bit low but ease up I'm sure he does have a ton of money into it, but good luck on your build.

Dude I can honestly care less about my car even having over 400rwhp , id rather spend the money on other things. This guy started trying to be a hardass saying oh your just mad my car is faster than yours, like really? Okay cool guy, he must not get enough attention at home obviously, because he has to try to be noticed on here.

Your the one that started **** calling me out because I said I gained 50rwhp by adding cams and a boost a pump. really you don't think that is possible??? You talk like a *** I've seen your other posts putting 2V's down saying they are junk. 4V's are awesome except for the head cooling issue they have but come on... Here is some of my best runs lets see yours. Yeah I do have more money in my car who cares what I've spent, not to many good used parts up here in Vermont.

I honestly don't have any videos ,
Best 13.3 @107
X pipe / short throw
2.3 60ft

And IMO I think they suck , I'm not pointing out anyone's cars. I've just had the worst luck with my previous 2 GTs
And personally would never go back to a 2v
And yeah I don't see how the hell someone would get 50rwhp from just cams NA I didn't see that you had a V3 which makes alot of sense
