Transmission or not

Why is my transmission struggling to downshift mainly when the ac is on? It like rumbles or something when I press the gas a little but if I push the gas hard it downshifts fine. It's doesn't jerk or nothin though, please help everybody keeps saying the transmission is fine, it's a 96 gt automatic

You are forcing the syncros to do all the work. Revving the engine matches the rpms to the lower gear better allowing for a smoother shift.

Probably, what you are noticing is the A/C compressor cycling on and off. It takes quite a bit of power to run the air and it will change the way that the car feels as far as power goes. The transmission may also notice the change and alter shift points a little. If your trans seems like it is shifting good through all of the gears, I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep it maintained with fresh fluid and filter and you should be fine.

Oh ok well it does it without the ac on too but it's just annoying cuz I have to hit the gas pretty hard to pass ppl on the highway but I guess I'll try changing fluid and filter thanks

You might want to make sure that the engine is tuned up and running at its best as well.

From what you describe the rumble is you lugging the engine and when you floor it it'll kick down and get into the power band. Remember, a 96 Automatic GT is not really a fast car at all... in fact most stuff that comes out nowadays will be faster than you are. You're only at 215fwhp and probably more like 160 to the wheels if its stock...
