Hey guys. So today at work one of my buddies was talking about the 03/04 Termis. It made me start to think about the engine on them, and the 390hp stock that they produce. An 03/04 cobra is what I've wanted to get although I don't have $20,000+ to spend on one. It really made me start to wonder if it would be cheaper to engine swap a cobra engine into my GT. I know it's gonna cost a good chunk of $$$ but I'm sure it would be cheaper than buying an actual cobra. Thoughts?

Yes it be cheaper but lots of work. I mean if you have a wrecked cobra to pull from not bad..

Would there be anything I need to look out for? Any downside to engine swapping?

There's a write-up in the stickies for a 2V to 4V swap. That should give you a general idea of what the swap entails. It'll be a bit more complicated since you will have to find everything for the blower too. 20K may be tough to come up with but the motors tend to go for $6K-8K on ebay last I checked.

Yeah that's about the same price range I've seen online also.. Just wondered if it would be worth it to engine swap if I ever get the money too, or if it would just be better to save up and eventually buy a cobra.

Why not just build your engine up?

Well when it's all said and done it's still just a GT. It'd be a badass GT but you wouldn't have nearly as good of a resale value as a Cobra. You might be able to get $10-12K out of it in the current market if you sold it with a Cobra motor in it.

Yeah it would be a BA gt for sure, I kinda like that idea. Most people would just think its a regular GT but has the power of an 03/04 cobra. That's the only bad part is gonna be the re-sale value. I guess I'll hold off unless I find a really good deal on one.

WHY not just build your engine up or put a blower on it?

If you were gonna save the money to try and swap it then that^ would be your best bet.

What suggestions do you have for building my engine up?

Best bet is either finding a low mileage Teskid block and tossing some forged internals or maybe some low mileage Cobra rods and pistons into it. Or you could go with a built motor from MMR or DSS racing.

Know how much any of those would cost me?

The Teskid with Cobra internals would probably run somewhere between $1K to $1.5K after going to a machine shop and making sure everything is safe and sound. A motor from MMR or DSS would run close to $3K, but you get a brand new bottom end with those.

So what kind of gains are we talking with the Teskid/cobra internals?

What's the website?
Well the Teskid block itself is safe to over 1000hp as is. The Cobra rods and pistons with the stock GT crank is safe up to 600ish hp. If you went with a Cobra crank as well then I believe I've heard of some guys hitting over the 700whp mark on occasion.

Yeah. Granted you do have to buy whatever form of boost afterwards, but it's fairly cheap to build a 2V.

I've tossed the idea around. I actually completely ripped that idea off of Scottydoesntknow. My plan right now is to build a higher compression (10.5:1-11:1) N/A motor that can rev somewhere close to 7500. But my plan always changes so we'll see when I get the money for it.

Sweet dude. You already have the IRS swap, which I wouldn't mind having. I think we all change our ideas a lot (especially me) haha. By the way, I told the Mazda kid today about high plains lol.

Haha yeah for the amount of money I've dumped into this just to get the Cobra stuff I should have started with a 99 or 01. Does he want to go get his *** raped?

How much did your IRS swap cost you? And he said " oh I'd love to take my car up there!" And I said " yeah he'd raped you pretty badly though" and he just walked off.. haha.

The swap itself was a straight trade but I put $300 on top for the exhaust. I'm just gonna assume e doesn't believe a word you said since American cars "aren't supposed to handle"

They also " are really slow." Yeah he doesn't know what he's talking about. Today at work he walked outside to come talk to me, he looked up at our cars at the top of the parking lot and said " damn that look sexy!" (He was referring to his front-mount) I almost said " it actually looks like a piece of s*** " haha. Where did you find the guy the trade with you? CL?

Yeah it's a local forum. I mostly lurk there cause I don't have much to say. I'm just gonna assume he's gonna get too much speed off the straightaway and go straight off the course when the first turn comes up.

I just really want him to go so he can find out how bad his car's handling/suspension is compared to yours and a lot of others. MAYBE that will shut him up.. And cool, ill check it out.

Well he's a cocky teenager with a decently quick car, it'll put him in his place for a while but eventually he's just gonna come up with excuses and say that it wasn't his fault that I beat him.
