Performance Enhancements: Installation Order

Just want to get some thoughts on this order. If you were going to modify your GT to a strong street machine (Or maybe even a track car), would you incrementally modify the car in an order such as this? The idea is to keep it a 2V as a street machine, but I do have some 4V parts thrown in as an option. There are lots of add-ons such as braided wiring that I'm not including in this list.

1. CAI/78mm throttle body/Edelbrock Intake manifold. $600

2. Hooker Ceramic Headers/2.5" exhaust/x-pipe/Tune/Lower 1.5"/Short throw shifter/Gauges $1500

3. 20+ lb fuel injectors/plugs/Camshafts/Valve work/underdrive pully. $1200

4. Improved brakes/18-20" tires/3.73 gears (4.11 for drag strip)/31 spline axles/c-clip eliminator. $2500

5. Sway bar/control arms/Subframe connectors. $1100

6. Hi Performance clutch/light flywheel/Light drive shaft. $1500

7. Drop excess weight/race seat/Rollbar/maybe some body work?. $2000

8. Truly optional: (4V heads with appropriate headers) Radiator/Intercooler/Turbo/Super Charger/hi compression pistons and aluminum block/Transmission. $4500.

Thanks for your comments.

You are talking alot of money for a goal that you seem uncertain about. To be honest, if your wanting to dump that much cash, I would suggest starting with a different car that would take car of some of those mods. Also you seem to be going alot for power, starting off with a 4valve may be the way you want to go.

Almost $16,000 for a car that's 11 years old? That kind of money, you should be looking at getting a Shelby GT 500 or a GT and use that to work from.

Thanks. I think the New Edge model is a great looking car and a good platform to start building a real hot rod. I like this car much better than the follow on models, so, if I decide to do something, I would with the car I have. This car looks good and runs good and i get good fuel efficiency with 21 around town and 27+ hwy. No issues currently at 105,000 miles.

Probably stopping around $5K is good advice, too. I'm not looking to be a highly competitive race driver, anyway. However, if the opportunity was there to drive Road Atlanta or some other road track, I'd want to take full advantage of that. Thanks again.

Read the Beginner's Guide... sticky, it will answer a lot of your questions including the sequencing of the mods...

... if you're serious about spending that kind of money you should consider just doing a coyote swap.

New 5.0 in modern Mustangs. you'll make over 400hp N/A with room to expand and you get a brand new motor instead of modding one with many miles on it. Simply newer, better tech. They're still pretty uncommonn so you get the cool factor as well.

Just a 5.0 will cost you 7k and then you need a ecu and other changes. It is near a 15k swap.

The motor, control pack, tremec conversion bell and fuel isn't 15k. Still not cheap but it's no 15 grand.

What I Want and what is a possibility for you is a teskid block ( mark 8 ) cobra 8 bolt crank fordged connecting rods and 2v pistons. Get your heads ported and polished and you have a very very strong motor that does not need a new wiring harness and can handle and boost you throw at it for less than like 3,500$
