No oil on dipstick. No leak.

I change the oil religiously earlier than it should be changed.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic.

I never hit red line. I don't go WOT too often at all. There isn't a leak or anything.

The car does run rich. No mods other than an X-pipe with bassani muffler and a short shifter.

I checked the dip stick randomly after it sat all night and all day and it was bone dry, 1 quart can make it say "full" so I added a quart. Waited 15, then checked it...still dry. I had to basically add 3 quarts just to reach the middle of the dipstick.

I'm guessing it's burning oil?

The oil cap and oil isn't milky, it doesn't over heat, it has full power and runs strong. However, it's idling a lot better this morning.

Anyone have any idea what it could be based on the information given?

Tried to cover all bases for the best possible answer, let me know if I missed something to help you guys out.

Edit:
(P.S. I'm traumatized from this issue, my first car met it's fate to a highly similar issue and I was just 16 and didn't have the money to fix it, so this adding oil randomly game scares me.)

are you getting smoke out of the rear exhaust? does it blow out smoke when you rev it up? if you are not getting black/blueish smoke it is not burning oil.it has to be some kind of leaking.also, the oil dip stick was change. i do not remember what years. one show full with 5 quarts.

No smoke whatsoever. I don't see any leaks either. I have left a flattened cardboard box under it last night to see..and all I got was cat piss on it. No oil.

It's the strangest thing...

Welcome to the world of the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation). These motors along with the pushrods use this setup and it has a nasty tendency to suck up oil into the intake. My old 5.0 Cobra was really bad in this regard, I had to add at least a quart between oil changes, some ppl have reported it to be worse than even that. All I can say is you should be checking your oil weekly on a DD and that is just good practice with any car. If you were 3 qts low I really hope you didn't fry your bearings... as long as the stock gauge didn't drop off you had at least SOME oil in there but time will tell.

How many miles and what grade Mobil1? Could be a candidate for Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w30 or 10w40.

I had a similar problem. Car ran great, never leaked a drop of oil, never smoked any, I checked all the vacuum hoses. Nothing anywhere. I didn't know what it was but I had to add oil quite often. One day I got tired of having a quiet car so I hallowed out my resonators and converters and that's when the smoke became noticeable. Wouldn't smoke till I got the car warm though, literally 25 minutes of driving then it would have constant blue smoke and big puffs when I took off from a stop. I figured it was my valve seals bought some new ones, had 4 shops turn down the job. Eventually just done it myself with help from my dad. Since the job I've never noticed smoke and i never have to put oil in. And its been about 4,500 miles.
