94 5.0 vs 99 3.8

Which one is faster stock vs stock? They both have high miles the 94 is a 5speed has 233000, the 99 is auto has 191000, both in great condition... just curious, the 99 is mine but I'm thinkin about buyin the 5.0...I know theyre kinda close going by the numbers

The 5.0. It has 25 more hp and 60 more ft-lb of torque

By like 40 lbs. the hp numbers are close enough to be called similar I suppose, but the torque alone in the 5.0 should be enough. Throw in the gearing, suspension etc and it should win

Ive driven 2 old 5.0s past 250,000. Have it checked out, but if it was taken care of it should be ok. All depends on maintenance

This isn't even a close decision you even needed to post here. 5.0 vs a 3.8? Even if stock for stock they are within a car length of each other somehow (they won't be) the 5.0 is infinitely more modifiable and will respond to said mods 100x better.

Seat of the pants will pop yourself a boner every time...

Only v6 that comes even CLOSE to catching the push-rod 5.0's is the new 3.7 v6s... I don't care what those owners will say, pushrod 5.0s can and will run away from ford v6's ( ex. SHO ) with a good driver.

And that many miles is nothing for a pushrod 5.0

The SHO isn' t the end all be all either. I had one and that engine was about 15 years ahead of its time but my bolt on 5.0 Cobra was ridiculously faster. So was my bolt on 91 GT. Also you have to deal with those damn shims every 60k miles...

I was talking about the ecoboost v6, not that Yamaha motor from the 90's lol

When I was setting up the suspension on the V6, found that the V8's are 100Lbs heavier, FYI.
-I totally modded the V6, dyno tunned it, ect.. it moves & handles great, BUT would never pass up on a 5.0 pushrod.

Even back in the day when I had a 96 GT auto coupe I kept running my friend's 02 sixer 5 speed. Off the line it was even until 2nd gear where my car would just put 3 cars on him and kept pulling. The 5.0 being a 5 speed should have no problem beating an auto six.

There is a reason that Mustang guys still say "lol V6" even with the new 3.7s being pretty good. The old V6s were so godawful they'd get smoked by a decent V6 sedan half the time... The good thing about them is so many V6s sell to ppl who just want the look that it makes the V8s cheaper for us haha.

i have yet to lose to a stock 5.0 at the track...i'm sorry they are slow and have even worse gearing stock then a 99-04 v6. now this is talking stock for stock...both motors are push rods...but the 5.0 takes to modding easier. although i wouldn't waste my time with an old 5.0...i'd rather pi swap a 96-98 4.6...because they always outran my '04 GT at beech bend lol

Stock the 5.0s are slow because of 2.73 gears and plugged up stock exhausts. A simple exhaust and gears on a fox is a 13 second car right off the bat. I still can't fathom the OP even asking a question like 3.8 vs a 5.0... I mean that's like asking if you should date Jessica Alba or Honey Boo Boo's Mom...
