04 gto vs 01 gt

Im in a dilemma. I have had enough with my 01 GT. Since feb when I bought it I have replaced/fixed: air intake manifold, coil packs, spark plugs, full tune up, o/r installed due to bad cat, borla stinger installed due to rubbing issues with blowmasters, replace fuel filter, rebuilt rear diff with 4.10s and tune. And my car is STILL not fixed. I still need shocks/struts all the way around, new clutch and manifolds are leaking, car is running hot and idling high. Thats just whats wrong with it this week. Seems like every time i turn around something is broken. The car has been one big headache since day 1. Now I have found a 04 GTO with 17k miles on it for a price i think is fair. I have looked and looked for months for a mach 1 or cobra within 200 miles that isnt beat to hell or marked way up, no luck. Any opinions on what to do. Im screwed either way i go. Not going to ever get my money back and tired of looking at the damn thing.

I love mustangs, just hate mine. Never runs right. Cant justify spending another 3k just to be running right. Have spent enough money to buy a s/c so far and still have problems.

maybe ur motor is just on the edge of giving out already. either way ur gona spend more money. either u do a motor swap, or sell ur car real cheap and pay off a new one.

Gto's with a nice cam sound absolutely amazing. Ditch the stang before you get in too deep, have your fun with the GTO, then when you're tired of the pontiac, look for a cobra. GT's are nice, but without F/I, they're pretty slow compared to the other pony cars. And in order to slap a blower on your Gt, you need a solid motor that isn't going to grenade under the pressure. GTO's don't look much better than a chevy Cav, imo. But they can be fast as hell.

Im neutral on the GTO outside, a comfortable inside tho. I love mustangs and don't want to drive anything else, but i refuse to buy another 2v, don't like the styling of the 3v and no way i can afford a new 5.0, and as stated before find it impossible to find a decent 4v. I need more power too! The ls1 is a good base. And with 17k miles should be reliable. My engine would not survive f/i i believe and a motor swap? No thanks.

05-06 gto i think he meant with the 6.0. Would be nice if i could find find one with a standard transmission. And good point about the trans am, will look into it, the only ive seen tho is a ws6, which is nice, but had a lot of miles. The next car i want to keep for years to come. 02 was the last year they made the trans ams i believe, would like something a little newer. Im picky, i know.

The Holden made GTO is in my opinion one of the absolute best cars GM has ever made ... evar.

They might not look agressive on the outside but they are still a decent looking car. However, the interiors are extremely nice. The cars have proven to hold up well. The ride is quite good. The power is there if/when you want it. If you want more power, you will have an LSx. Do bolt ons, a cam and spray and say hello to 550+rwhp while pulling down 26+ mpg on the highway (6spd).

I was actually looking for an LS2 GTO for a DD before buying my Mustang. I couldn't find one that hadn't been beat to hell without paying dearly for it ($16k+).

If you don't mind a worse interior/ride quality than the GTO but still want to go fast, look for a decent LS1 Fbody. They can be found fairly cheap ($8k or less) in decent shape and are a much better platform for building a "fast, cheap" car than the GTO.

Not a fan of the color but does have low miles. You can find a 6.0 with under 50k for about 15-18k

I like the color! Not something you see all the time. Some black wheels and window tint and it would look good.

You can sink a lot of money in a 2v too and make good power. The 2v's are so underrated

It looks like a lot of that is just routine maintenance or go-fast goodies.
Welcome to the world of enthusiast automobiles.
A ten year old GM will be no better but if you're "tired of looking at the damn thing", yeah, it's time for a change. You could stay with the Mustang family with the amount that you have budgeted but, again, New Edges are getting to be an aging fleet. Low mileage or not.
Sometimes, it may be better to just get something that still has some factory warranty left, and put down the tools for a while. Ive been there before...

Just got done test driving the GTO, and i have to say i was disappointed. The car felt very slow and lifeless. Absolutely hated the shifter, i felt as if i was driving a honda accord coupe. Nothing about the car made me like it. The thing had borla exhausts and i couldn't barley hear the things. I tried to like it, but i am ruined by owning a mustang. My wife said i has a very uninterested look on my face as i drove it. The thing didn't put me back in my seat like i expected. It didn't snarl with an assault of raw power. It was very tame and refined as tho i was driving a SUV. I think i can never own another car again if it isn't a new edge mustang. One good thing the car had was leg room but who cares, i would have hated driving that thing everyday for the next 10 years.

For that 15k, you could drop a 5.0 (Coyote) in your GT and maybe squeeze out a supercharger with the rest. Bam 600hp right there, in a light New Edge.

My dad had a 06 GTO with 4000 miles it had slp exhaust and it was too much, but didn't sound nearly as good as a mustang, but it was plenty fast. It was an auto and with tc on it would light up first and spin a ways into second. I love the ones with the ls2 because they don't look very fast, but will destroy most things on the road.
